DEADMAN POINT

The western side of Deadman Point

Located on the east side of Apple Valley, Deadman Point (also known as Deadman's Point) is a small mountain chain. The southeast portion of it has been used for filming--westerns in the 1930s-1950s and Sci-Fi films in the 1950's. In 1954, "The Lone Ranger" television show used it in "The Fugitive" when they were filming several episodes in the area, including new opening scenes for the show (filmed at Rabbit Dry Lake, a short distance to the east). The site has been used for a swap meet, motocross racing, and even sported a false front western street and fort. All of that is gone. All that remains are the rocks.

DIRECTIONS: From Los Angeles, take Interstate 10 east to Interstate 15 north. Exit at Bear Valley Road and turn right (east). When you connect with Highway 18, the location will be on the southeast corner.
