BARNEY OLDFIELD COUNTRY CLUB
The Whitley Park Country Club was begun by Ross Emmett Whitley on 312 acres of land in Sherman Oaks. At first it had an 18 hole ladies golf course. It was in operated by July 22, 1923. The main building was called "Canyon Clubhouse". By 1932, it was in bankruptcy and was then known as Valley Park Country Club. In June 1937, Barney Oldfield purchased the country club from G. E. Kinsey for $70,000. By Jan 1946, Oldfield was no longer the owner. In 1953, it became the Glen-Aire Country Club. In 1964, the property was sold to the Buckley School, after which the land was completely cleared and all new school buildings were erected.
