Movie-Related Web Sites

Roger Ebert This is the homepage of the greatest film critic around, Roger Ebert. He has a vast knowledge on the subject of movies itself and on many other things as well. Not only that, but his reviews are entertaining and not quite as "stuffy" as the other film critics out there. Whether you agree with him or not(I know I sure don't sometimes), you gotta admit he makes some good points in his reviews. Beware though, as much as I respect him, he tends to give away key points to the plot sometimes, or "spoilers," so you'd do best to just see the rating it got, and maybe read the first and last paragraph. Then after you've seen the movie, go back and read the entire review.

Joey the Film Geek Behold him in all his glory, it's Joey the Film Geek! His website is one of the reasons I decided to build myself a website. It's the site of a fellow film geek. You may hear me call myself a film geek a lot, but I'm nothing compared to this guy. He's very knowledgeable on movies, and he's not afraid to open up on his website. There are plenty of personal film sites out there, but I haven't seen any better than his. Do yourself a favor and click on this link, and go to his site. When your there, visit everything! He's got a unique style in his reviews where he likes to get very personal in his writing. Check out his screenplay too, it kicks ass.

Ebert and Roeper and the Movies The homepage of quite possibly the two greatest film critics around TODAY(R.I.P. Gene Siskel). It's a really cool website for those who can't find time to watch the nationally syndicated TV show, which I don't even know what time it plays or what channel it's on. It allows you to hear audio clips of Ebert and Roeper's reviews using Media Player and it's pretty cool to hear their insights and arguments on movies.

Movies.com The name says it all. Movies.com is probably the most general site you can find on movies, and it's actually really cool. You can read reviews from a bunch of film critics, box-office estimates and results, DVD news, and basically anything you can think of that involves movies. You can also look at showtimes and buy tickets for movies in your area.

The Box Office Guru Updated every Thursday, Sunday, and Monday; this is probably the #1 site for news on the weekend box office as well as box office predictions. I usually go to Movies.com to check what the top-10 movies were for the weekend but if your looking for more in-depth information and insights, the Box Office Guru is the place to go.

Ain't it Cool News This is not a website for the impatient, especially if you have a slow connection-speed. The navigation is horrible, the colors just might end up giving you a head-ache, and the pop-up ads make you wanna shoot yourself. But if you can deal with all this, the content is definitely well worth it. It's a really great site for all film geeks alike, and even though the rumors tend to be complete lies, they're pretty interesting. The reviews are great(though sometimes incredibly long) and the rants, commentary, etc. are fun to read(well, for me anyway). The site was created by Harry Knowles, and this site has made him a celebrity of sorts among movie-lovers and film geeks. Despite the bad navigation, it's still a great site. So what are you waiting for? CLICK ON THE LINK, GO TO THE SITE, AND LOVE IT! Or at least try to love it.

Dark Horizons(News and Rumors Page) A site with plenty of great news, rumors, reviews, trailers etc. Though it sometimes takes a while to load, Dark Horizons is the perfect site for your film geek needs.

The Internet Movie Database Without question, the best site out there to find any kind of information on movies, and the people involved with them. Just type in a director's name, and get a list of their entire filmography with tons of information related to it. Anytime you wanna find out who did what and when, your #1 stop should be The Internet Movie Database. I usually go here when I wanna do a little research on a movie I'm reviewing, or just when I wanna find out interesting facts about my favorite directors, or other film-related material.

Movie-List A great site for downloading movie trailers. They always seem to get the new trailers before anyone else, and they have TONS of old trailers online. Check it out, unless of course you have KaZaA Media Desktop, in which case you can probably get it a lot faster, but oh well.

DVD-Related Web Sites

DVD Review To be quite honest, despite the great navigation and design, this site isn't really a reliable source for DVD news, rumors, etc. It also doesn't help that it's not run by a true movie/DVD lover(he was unbias to the whole Widescreen/Fullscreen Willy Wonka fiasco), but it's a pretty useful site when you wanna look up the specifications and special features a DVD has. Don't rely on their reviews though, EVERY review they write is a positive one!

DVD File This is the best DVD information site on the web. Great news, reviews etc. often before the DVD is even released! If you're a DVD fanatic like myself, you absolutely must check out this site.

DVD Price Search This is a really cool site if your looking to see which of your favorite flicks have been already released on DVD, and what kinds of editions you can find. It also searches the web to find the lowest prices for the DVD you wish to purchase.

Skinny Guy DVD Search The real place to get the lowest prices on DVDs out there. That is, if you don't mind them being used. I never really use this site but my step-brother seems to like it alot since he's always buying DVDs from there. If you don't mind them being used, and not even coming in their original cases, you can get prices as low as $5 for DVDs here.

The Digital Bits Unlike DVD Review, this site is run by a true movie/DVD lover. Though not as good as DVD File, you csn find some pretty cool news and rumors stuff here. Definitely worth checking out.

Miscellaneous Web Sites

In case you wanna know, here are a few personal favorite sites of mine that have absolutely nothing to do with movies:

The People's Wrestling Website If there are any wrestling fans out there, The People's Wrestling Website is the #1 Source for Wrestling-Related News, Rumors, coverage etc. Though not always on time, usually the coverage is very entertaining to read since the columnists like to include their own opinions during coverage of WWF Pay-Per-Views and events. This is definitely one of the most interesting sites on the web, whether or not you like wrestling. They also like to talk crap about other stuff too, like music, movies etc.

Gamepro A site by the writers and publishers of the world's greatest video-game magazine. Read reviews, news, information etc. on everything that has to do with video games, movies, music etc. That's right folks, this site is not just for video game players, come read about movies and music too! The online forums are definitely the best part of the site, as they allow you to post your opinions and rants on topics ranging from literature(yes you heard me right, literature), comic books, movies, music, and of course, video games.

Encyclopedia Metallica An awesome site for the most awesome band in the universe, Metallica. Unlike the horrible official Metallica site(www.metallica.com) , this site is actually interesting. Everything you've ever wanted to know about the legendary band can be found on this page. They also have some really cool contests in which you can win rare Metallica stuff, not to mention up-to-date news on the band.

Tool: The Official Web Site The official page for up-to-date news on one of the coolest bands on the planet, Tool. Features tour info., discography, etc.

AJ's Little Piece of Misery This is a pretty cool site. It's by a guy named AJ, and it's very dark and depressing, but definitely intriguing and worth checking out. Check out the short-story, "A Dream," in his "My Writings" section. It's gotta be one of the best short stories I've ever read.
