Welcome to Microbiology 295! This site gives a general overview of the lectures and lab excersises that were learned and performed for the Spring 2004 semester.

Introduction to Microbiology

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms. These organisms, called Microbes include algae, bacteria, molds, protozoans, virsus and yeasts. The study also includes the study of tiny infectious particles as prions, viroids, and plasmids. Microbiology is one of the largest and most complex of the biological sciences because it deals with many diverse biological disciplines. In addition to studying the natural history of microbes, it alos deals with every aspect of microbe-human and microbe-environment interactions. These interactions include genetics, metabolism, infection, disease, drug therapy, immunology, genetic engineering, industry, agriculture, and ecology.
