CHAPTER FOURTEEN

The first twenty minutes of the car ride home was silent. Awkward silent.

"Baby are you okay?" Sam decided to speak first, noticing the look on her face. He had only seen that look once before--the night she'd told him she was pregnant--right after he'd lost his mind on her

"Do I LOOK okay, Sam?" she spat in reply.

"Don't get mad at me for this. It isn't my fault he's in love with you and doesn't want you to get married."

"You're right...I'm sorry," she scooted across the seat and snuggled up to him. He put his arm around her shoulders and smiled.

"Can I ask you something? Like, something important?"

"Sure, sweetie...anything," she looked up at him.

"Will you move in with me?"

"Move in? Sam, don't you think that's kind of a huge step in the process..."

"So is getting married and you still said yes...listen, I want to help you and take care of you for the last couple of months you're pregnant...I missed out on a lot already, and I don't think I could live with myself if I wasn't the one making 3 a.m. runs to Shop n Save when you have a craving."

"Sam, that's very sweet...but how are we supposed to support ourselves? I don't have a job and if I did I'd have to leave when the baby is born..."

"Taylor, I need you there..." he cut her off. "I need you to keep me out of trouble...I'll do whatever I need to do to get us by, but Taylor..." he pleaded.

She let out a heavy sigh. "My parents are going to flip out...Brook's gonna flip out..."

"Forget all that for one minute, okay--deal with them later...Tell me what you want."

"Sam, I don't know what I want...this is all happening so fast. Too fast. I can't keep track of everything anymore. I mean, in the last ten days, you waltz back into my life, propose, I lose my best friend and now you want me to move in with you," she listed the events off on her fingers. "I can't process one change before something else happens!"

"I know, I know...but I feel like I need you with me...I need to be able to take care of you--I want to be there for you. And I need you with me to keep me from drinking and partying and fucking my life up again."

She let out a sigh and gave him a soft smile. "Can you help me pack?"

********************

Just as predicted, Mr. and Mrs. Kelso were less than thrilled with their daughter's new living arrangements. They raised a holy hell, but in the end conceeded, and even transferred her college funds into her personal account to help with the cost of living.

Brooklynn, true to her word, gave Taylor her full support. She even went as far as being civil and at times even nice to Sam. Life was almost back to normal...

Sam worked early morning until six or so at night. He'd come home to find the apartment clean and dinner on the table. The couple lived happily together and often joked how they felt as if they were 'playing house'.

"When do you wanna get married?" Sam asked Taylor as they lay in bed watching T.V. one night in early December.

"After the baby's born...after I stop being fat."

He laughed. "You're beautiful and you know it...what are we gonna name him?" Sam laid a hand gently on her round belly.

"Simon Michael...or Harry James..."

"You are not naming our son after Harry Potter..."

She laughed. "It's sad that you know that's Harry Potter's full name...what about Draco...you know you like Draco..."

"It's true...Draco Malfoy is a bad ass in the movies...however...I can't name my son Draco Malfoy Mullholand...that's just mean..."

"Do you like the name Draco, though?"

"I like it more than Simon...he'll get his ass beat for having a little bitch name if we name him Simon."

"Well...what do you think we should call him?" she laughed.

"Draco is an awesome name...Draven is also fun...Lestat..."

"Oh, I can't name him after a fictional wizard but you can name him after a fictional vampire?"

"Lestat would kick Harry Potter's ass then eat him for dinner..."

"You're mental..." she sighed. "I can't believe I'm due in a month..."

"I know...I'm excited, though..."

"Me too," she smiled.

"So," he cleared his throat. "You know Hayden comes home for Christmas in a few days...I think, maybe, we ought to try and make up with him."

"He isn't coming home," Taylor shook her head. "He's spending the holiday with his new girlfriend and her family in Montana."

"Where'd you hear that?"

"He told Brook and Brook told me. Apparantly he lvoes Florida, too. Says he doesn't know if he wants to come back."

"Maybe Florida is where he belongs," Sam shrugged.

"Yeah but...I miss him," Taylor sighed.

"So call him. The worst thing that can happen is that he won't talk to you, ya know?"

"I'm not calling. He started this, not me. He'll call when he's ready to be an adult."
