VX in Andromeda

I was finally able to find a photo of Durand as the mechanical VX from Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda and the first season episode "The Sum of Its Parts" from an obscure (well, it is to me no matter how I love the country...) Japanese Andromeda site. There's also an episode synopsis with a better photo of him with Kevin Sorbo (Captain Hunt), David Winning and Matt Smith at LadyMaigrey's site. The original bigger version hails from director David Winning's site with more on Andromeda and other shows. Thanks for all the pictures.

Andromeda fans aren't quite as widespread as Stargate SG-1 fans so the material on the Web is more sparse, too. I understand The Sum of Its Parts is not considered a particularly special episode among Andromeda fans and Kevin is only on screen for maybe 10 minutes, although his voice is used for a bit more than that? Then again that's the metallic type, too, similar to how he sounds as Zipacna, not his normal one. He's also painted silver (blue-greyish) and decked with red fairylights here and there among the metal parts that make up VX, a not-so-nice representative of the Consensus of parts. At first glance you might think of a silver-coloured Borg or something? I've also included the sketch I made of him as VX down at the bottom. I figured I wouldn't find any pics so had to draw him myself, only to find these the following days. What is it they say about lighting a cigarette to get your bus to arrive...? Suffice it to say, it's no wonder he said the suit was incredibly uncomfortable, looked almost as if the metal plates over his shoulders were chafing his neck.

"Andromeda was a good experience, too. [Star] Kevin [Sorbo] was great and supportive. I was incredibly uncomfortable in my costume, but they got the look they wanted."

"The Sum of Its Parts" synopsis

"Between birth and death lies desire, desire for life, for love, for everything good.
This is the source of all suffering."

Quotes

VX/Consensus: "Prepare to receive our drones."
Beka: "Nice to meet you, too."

VX: "Captain Hunt, I am ready to evaluate your ship."

VX: "The Andromeda is a unique and fascinating entity. She'll join the consensus and your bio units may accompany her. You will agree."
Captain Hunt: "We'll consider it."
VX: "Elevated heartrate." *moves closer* "Incongruous eye movement. You are lying."
Hunt: "I'm not lying, I'm a little insulted and I didn't wanna show it."
VX: "You see, that's why the Consensus is superior. When we require intelligent decisions millions or even billions of component parts network with each other. The Commonwealth.... depended on individuals."
Hunt: "Individuals can work together, too."

Hunt: "VX, Andromeda and I have discussed your offer."
VX: "Good, then I'll begin consensus immediately."
Hunt: "I said we discussed it, not that we agreed to it."
Rommie: "In other words, thanks but no thanks."
VX (blinks in disbelief): "You refuse us."

Hunt: "Ah, that's pretty much what she said, yes."
VX: "I was not directing my inquiry at you, organic. Do not fear him, I will not allow him to corrupt you or manipulate you."
Rommie: "Nobody manipulates me. I do as I choose and I prefer to remain as I am."

VX: "Today you are slave to your bio units. In the Consensus, you will become their master. Join us."
Beka: "Or else."

He uses the same sort of "pure contempt" looks as VX as he does in Stargate with Zipacna, head tilted a bit back to look down on the other (good use of the height naturally), mouth half open and eyes staring coldly at the other person.

I couldn't get the size fixed when I had it scanned in the Internet cafe so it's a bit big for now... I think it was about half the size of this originally, drawn from the TV, paused the video. It's after he's told Hunt he's ready to evaluate the ship. Remember the metallic silver skin colour and the metal parts by the way, don't exactly show in this. Nor the "Relatively Silly Headgear, Once Again" bit... ;)
