Currently, here are some appetisers from the 30 Odd Foot of Grunts gig at Stubbs in Austin, Texas courtesy of Crowe Graphics and more originally courtesy of Gruntland Films. Many thanks! More to come as soon as I find the time to sort this stuff out. If I've accidentally picked up a picture that isn't of Kevin or doesn't have him in there, blame my lack of concentration and need of an eye check-up or the fact that I'm writing this around 5am, or just that I didn't see him there personally. Nor have I seen the DVD containing KD's Nowhere-rap at the Texas gigs, apparently available at Gruntland. Likewise, if you check the rest of the pics out at Crowe Graphics and find more pics of Kevin, give me a whistle and I'll add them to the gallery. There's a couple of things out there about him live with TOFOG so I'll throw in more quotes when I locate more stuff again. All of these from Stubbs BBQ, Austin Texas, August 18, 2000. If you ask me, Stephannie W. knows what she's talking about. Crowe never got to me in any way looks-wise (but then I've yet to see Gladiator).
Stephannie W.: "Then, after a drawn-out rendition of the opening to "Nowhere", we got a very special treat. Kevin Durand, aka - The Mighty Tree, bounded onto the stage to perform his rap. Dear Lord. For the next few minutes, every woman in that crowd forgot there ever was such a man as Russell Crowe. That is a singularly attractive young man - take every Calvin Klein model you've ever seen, combine them into one perfect and extremely tall body, give it talent and a brain, and you've got Kevin Durand. His incredible energy shot through us all, making the entire crowd bounce and scream, revitalizing us after hours of Texas/TOFOG heat." "During Kevin Durand's performance in "Nowhere", Crowe made himself scarce . . . either that, or I just didn't notice him. The Mighty Tree is quite the distraction." You tell 'em like it is. ;) |
Gahd those arms...
Is that him on the right or not? I can never tell from such informal pics. Same goes for the following 2
Mr Energizer/Duracel Bunny.Marcy G:
"when Tree came on and just got the crowd jazzed beyond belief. The whole place was just jumpin' (literally!!)"Jennifer K:
One of my favorite parts is when Kevin Durand "tree" from Mystery Alaska comes out on stage to help him with "Nowhere" This guy is tall 6 feet 7 and slim. He gets the whole audience going saying "I'm from Nowhere, I'm from Nowhere...Jump-Jump...(repeat)"--everyone waving their hands in the air and jumping to the rhythm--pretty fun and intense.Jennifer J: "When the song was over, he went off and Russ said "that is one energetic guy!" "
Carrie M:
"Then he introduced “D Almighty....TREE!!!!!!!!!!” And out comes Kevin Durand, with all of us going nuts of course. He started in with the normal rap he does on the CD, big huge guy, black jeans, white tank top and a black shiny jacket (was it a TOFOG jacket?), that he shed after a minute or so. When Kevin got to the bit about “Bud White, that's a history”, Russell had been over talking to Billy as they played, and Kevin went over to Russ as he was walking over to the other side of the stage and they both said the “hmmm that's a mystery” bit. Then Kevin just went nuts, started to freestyle. He rocked." |
