Battle Field Of Confusion:
At a small High School in Shinonome, Japan, some ancient ruins have
just been discovered under the school. We see some people gathering
around watching to see what is going on. A teacher named Mr. Fujisawa
ties off the entrance to the ruins. As he looks for some tape in his
pocket a bottle of sake falls to the floor. Naturally the students start
to make fun of him. Fujisawa yells out that it is medicinal, yet nobody
believes him, leaving Fujisawa to defend himself from the students
laughs.
Meanwhile inside the ruins, a local news crew is interviewing the
Student Council President, Katsuhiko Jinnai. Jinnai claims that he
discovered the ancient ruins, but in fact, a freshman had really found
it. He proclaims that the ruins should be named after him, but the news
crew thinks that is a little farfetched. Next comes in Jinnai's younger
sister, Nanami. Nanami breaks in to ask Jinnai about allegations of
bribing students to vote for him in the Council President race. Jinnai
naturally denies all this, and yells out that she is not on the
Journalists Club. She comes back and says that the club paid her just to
take the assignment. Nanami still persists asking more questions. This
causes the camera person to start laughing, Jinnai loses it, and attacks
the camera person. The camera falls to the floor and breaks causing the
T.V. to show static.
Watching this are some other students in a class room. All of these
students wish to impeach Jinnai because of his actions. Their main
witness is a shy, but strong Junior his name is Makoto Mizuhara. Makoto
is in the room and being asked to testify against Jinnai. What happened
was Makoto overheard Jinnai and the Baseball team captain talking.
Jinnai would get votes from the Baseball team in exchange for money for
the team if he remained President. Makoto is a little worried about
this, because Jinnai is his friend and all. After they ask him if he has
any balls, he exclaims they are as big as cantaloupes! Then he decides
to testify against Jinnai.
Next, we see Jinnai acting very oddly. He has come under the notion that
Makoto is his destined Rival. He looks at some test scores and sees that
he has scored second only to Makoto. Then he looks and sees a picture of
Makoto winning a track race. He remembers that race, because he nearly
passed out and then was run over by someone else. Jinnai then has
several other flashbacks where Makoto seemed to win all the time. When
he did a drawing of a city, he thought it was great, then he looked at
Makoto's drawing and it was many times better. Going deeper into the
visions he remembers lunch time where Makoto beat him out for the last
sandwich. This pushes Jinnai over the edge, and then he begins to rip up
papers on the bulletin board. He then decides that Makoto should be
"out of the way" for the trial. This thought causes him to rear
back and begin to laugh in a maniacal way, this laugh soon becomes his
trademark.
Later we see Makoto at his locker. Inside his locker is a note from
Nanami, whom he secretly likes, this note says for Makoto to meet her
outside by the school later. Makoto has high hopes about this, and goes
to the school later. To his great surprise, instead of seeing Nanami, he
sees Jinnai. Makoto is confused on why Jinnai is there, and is nervous
about Nanami coming to meet him. Jinnai said he put the note in the
locker to get his rival to him. Jinnai said he got the letter from
Nanami's sample collection of notes to others. Makoto is disappointed
about Nanami.
Jinnai then explains to Makoto about the life long rival thing, and
Makoto doesn't have a clue what is going on. Jinnai then pulls out a rope
and begins to chase Makoto exclaiming that he is going to get him out of
the way until after the trial. Jinnai states that according to the rules,
if the witness fails to show up, the charges will be dropped. Makoto is
clearly the better runner and is outrunning Jinnai.
Elsewhere in the school, Mr. Fujisawa, who is also Makoto's history
teacher, is staying at the school working late. Fujisawa however, is a
drinker and has a big bottle of Sake in his hand as usual. Nanami walks
in with some food for Mr. Fujisawa. Quickly he hides the Sake, and says
hello to Nanami. She hands him the food, and he quickly gulps it down.
Nanami then tells him that it will be 1000 yen for the food and Tea, he
nearly chokes. She explains that this is her part-time job, and a girl
has to make a living.
The story then goes back to Makoto and Jinnai. Jinnai finally corners
Makoto, and advances on him. This is where Jinnai claims that he is
always calm even though he looks totally flipped out. As Jinnai makes
his final lunge Makoto shields himself. Suddenly the school is bathed in
white light, and everything freezes except for Makoto. Makoto is puzzled
at this, and nudges Jinnai a bit telling him to stop it, and how did you
do that. After breaking some wood over the frozen Jinnai's head and
seeing no movement, he realizes that something is up.
He then hears a voice calling to him. The voice directs him to the ruins
under the school. He walks in the ruins and sees some light beams coming
from the ceiling. The voice, which we cannot hear, tells him to move
toward the capsule at the front of the room. When he comes to the center
of the room, he steps under a seal depicting an eye. This causes the
light beams to engulf him, and the capsule rises up and unlocks
itself.
A woman wakes up and emerges with tears in her eyes. She weakly walks
over to Makoto calling out his name as if she knows who he is. She
embraces Makoto and he asks who she is. She is confused on why he does
not remember. Then she explains how she has waited ten thousand years
for this very moment, and how she has only thought of him during this
time.
He is then told that his journey must begin, and she will send him to
El-Hazard. He asks what that is , but she only states that he will be in
her thoughts and heart until their paths meet again. Then she generates
the white light that transports Makoto, Jinnai, Nanami, and Mr. Fujisawa
to El-Hazard!
During the transport scene we see many faces and planets pass by. It
ends with a girl running toward us and matches her eyes with Makoto's,
then the white light returns.
Makoto opened his eyes to what seemed to be a large forest expanding
forever. He was on his back and had no idea where he was. He stood up and
then heard a rustle in some nearby bushes. He looked over to see Mr.
Fujisawa emerge from the tall grass. Mr. Fujisawa had to get back to
school because he couldn't keep it open all night. Makoto asked how
exactly do you plan on getting home, Mr. Fujisawa had no idea. He asked
Makoto where the heck they were, but Makoto had no answer. Makoto wasn't
even sure if they were in Shinonome, let alone Japan or even Earth for
that matter. Mr. Fujisawa said that he'll ask the next person that comes
along.
After about 5 minutes of waiting they heard another rustle in the bushes.
Out popped a strange looking animal called a Dolphin-Bear. It hopped
right between the two onlookers, and it made a strange noise as it
hopped. Both Makoto and his Sensei were dumbfounded. Makoto asked why his
teacher didn't ask the thing for some directions. Fujisawa was amazed
that Makoto saw the same thing he did. Mr. Fujisawa went nuts and said he
needed some Sake, and soon!
He reached into his pocket and pulled out, much to his dismay, a broken
bottle of Sake. He began to sob and cry, when he suddenly heard a lady's
scream. He said, "Oh S***! Someone else is out of Sake too!!"
Makoto and Fujisawa rushed to where the scream was coming from. They soon
came across one of the most beautiful women they have ever seen. She
passed out in front of Mr. Fujisawa. He began to blush heavily as he
looked over her. He told Makoto not to look at her, because he's too
young to see someone like that. He said all this not ever taking his eyes
off of the lady. Makoto looked up and saw what had frightened the lady.
He asked Fujisawa what is that!!! Fujisawa said that he told him not to
look he knew how easily young kids get stimulated. Makoto said he wasn't
talking about the woman, but at the army approaching.
Fujisawa looked to see a stampede of giant bugs coming at them pretty
fast. Then suddenly, two of the bugs in the rear leapt at them. Mr.
Fujisawa, in defense, brought his hands over his head, but struck the
bugs head on. Both bugs were launched into the sky . Makoto and his
teacher were amazed at this show of strength. The Sensei rose to his
feet, laughed, and began to beat the living daylights out of the bugs.
Then two more bugs from the rear leapt at Makoto this time. Makoto at
first ran away from them, but then guessed that he, too, had superhuman
powers. He reached back and punched one of the bugs in its stomach, but it
hurt Makoto more than the bug (the bug didn't even budge). Makoto figured
then again maybe not and quickly began to flee. By that time he was
surrounded.
He called out for help, and help did arrive. Fujisawa leapt 100 feet up,
and cried "Fujisawa Kick!" and came down hard on the bugs,
knocking them senseless. Suddenly all the bugs stopped in their tracks,
and began to march away, like nothing had happened. After exchanging looks,
Makoto and his teacher headed back towards the lady.
By this time a few people had come to the aid of the lady. One of them was
a tall man named Londs. He thanked the brave warrior (Fujisawa) for saving
the princess. When Rune Venus (the lady they saved) got up and noticed
Makoto she immediately asked where he had been. Makoto was confused and
didn't know what was going on, and she asked "you mean you are not
Fatora!" Makoto said there must be some mistake and asked who Fatora
was. Londs said Fatora is Rune Venus's sister, and that she had been
missing for some time now. The said it must be a sign from God that they
found someone who looks like Fatora. Fujisawa said that they had to get
going for home. Londs pleaded with them to come to their city as a reward
for saving Rune Venus. Mr. Fujisawa was more concerned with getting back
to Shinanome High School, but accepted the invitation. Londs called for
the transports to come and pick them up.
After being picked up by these giant flying airships, Makoto asked Londs
where they were. Londs began to explain to them that they are in the
world of El-Hazard, and in the kingdom of Roshtaria. He also told them
that the person they saved was none other than Princess Rune Venus, next
in line to rule. Makoto said that being a princess is why that woman was
so pretty. Fujisawa was being served some of there wine, and by the way he
was getting tanked up on it, looked forward to see a bright light and
asked what it was. Londs told them that they are now exiting the forest,
and coming to the city of Floristica capital of Roshtaria.
What they saw before them was one of the largest castles they had ever
seen. After landing at the castle, they were soon taken to a beautiful
balcony overlooking the city, while Londs would summon the Director of the
Royal Academy. Makoto was amazed at this being El-Hazard, but his teacher
was more worried about getting home before he ran out of smokes! Later
that night at dinner, the Director, a Dr. Schtalubaugh, began to tell them
about how they arrived at El-Hazard, but had no idea of how to get them
back to earth. He also added that Mr. Fujisawa's strength might be a
side-effect of the trip there.
The discussion moved on to just who were those bugs anyway. Londs then
told them that the Bugrom, those bugs from earlier, were the greatest
enemy that their kingdom had ever faced. Then the Director said that they
have a great weapon called the Eye of God, that protects the kingdom. He
then went to explain that El-Hazard is divided by the River of God. On the
other side of this river is the Bugrom kingdom. The evil Queen Diva is the
ruler of that empire, and that no one has ever entered their land and came
back to tell about it.
In the meantime, in this very same Bugrom kingdom, a very sore (from
having a wooden bord bashed on his face in an earlier scene) Jinnai was
wondering where in the heck he was. He right away put the blame on Makoto
for sending him there, (but still wondered why his face hurt) and suddenly
out of nowhere, the Bugrom approached Jinnai....
Back in the kingdom, Makoto and his Sensei were summoned by Rune Venus.
She wanted to ask them for a favor. She asked Makoto to look at a painting
on the wall. Makoto did, and was shocked at what he saw. It was a painting
of Rune Venus and what appeared to be Makoto dressed up like a woman.
Makoto asked what this was, and Fujisawa wonder why Makoto was in drag.
Rune Venus told him that the woman in the painting is her sister, Fatora.
Londs then told them that Fatora had been missing for several days. He
suspects the Bugrom are involved, but is not sure about it....
Going back, the Bugrom are having a little campfire, with Jinnai as their
guest. Somehow, Jinnai has made friends with the bugs. This probably
wasn't too hard, considering they're both evil. They offer him some great
food and drink, and Jinnai thinks that this is going to be a beautiful
friendship. He begins to laugh in his maniacal way. Yep they are going to
get along like bugs in a rug.
Now back in the castle... The Director and Londs are explaining to Makoto
and his teacher about how the Eye of God was used in a Holy War, many years
ago. It enabled them to defeat the Bugrom centuries ago, but now they're
back. They began to explain that the real power was in the surrounding
cities and this Alliance was very fragile right now. The reps from the
other cities believe that as long as they have control of the Eye of God,
the Bugrom will not attack them. The catch is that in order to control the
Eye you need both of the princesses to fire the Eye. Londs then sighed and
began to ask Makoto to impersonate the missing sister. Makoto refused right
away. Londs explained that there is a summit meeting tomorrow, and if the
neighboring kingdoms do not see Fatora, they will become worried and the
Alliance will crumble. Makoto still refused, and then he and his sensei
were thrown in the dungeon. Makoto asked why, but Fujisawa was confident
that he could bring the walls down with one punch. After several kicks,
punches, and one bad attempt at jumping for a window across a pit, he gave
up. He couldn't believe it, he had the power earlier, but he didn't have it
now.
While this was going on, Jinnai was being taken to the Bugrom's castle.
There he would meet Queen Diva. She asked if Jinnai was the messenger sent
from God to lead them in conquest against Roshtaria. Jinnai lied and said
that he was. Jinnai likes this victory conquest thing, he gets excited by
it. So he agreed to lead the Bugrom against the Alliance.
Back in the Dungeon, Makoto was thinking about the Eye of God, and its
power. Mr. Fujisawa was more worried about getting some Sake, as usual.
Makoto then realized that maybe the weapon is strong enough to cut through
dimensions and send them home. Mr. Fujisawa didn't care about all this and
tried again to punch the wall down. This time when he hit it, it nearly
caved the room in. Then the doors to the cell opened and in walked Londs
He was mad about the wall thing, but Makoto then agreed to impersonate
Fatora.
While being dressed up, Makoto told his teacher that he finally figured
out what made him so strong. Whenever Mr. Fujisawa is sober, he gets his
superhuman powers back. But Fujisawa was already downing some more Sake,
and said that his power is more of a curse than anything. Soon, Makoto was
all finished, Fujisawa started to make fun of him and make demeaning
remarks on how he looked. Needless to say, Makoto got mad at this.
As the servants walked out you can barely hear them say to each other that
they think the dress-up thing won't work, and then Rune Venus came in. She
told Makoto that all he had to do was sit next to her during the summit,
and keep quiet. Makoto agreed, and then the door to the room opened.
In walked a tall, slim man, who was Lord Galus. He was the fiancé
of Venus, but neither Londs or the Director like him at all. Galus walked
over to Venus, and kissed her hand. He then looked over at Makoto, and got
very wide-eyed and surprised. He has heard about what had happened that
day, and rushed there as fast as he could. Rune thanked him, and Galus had
asked how the Bugrom had found out about Venus's pilgrimage that day. Rune
said that she feared a spy in the castle.
Londs then stepped in and told Galus that the princess needs some more
time to get ready for the Summit Meeting. Before he left, he turned to
Makoto, and asked him where he was during all this. Galus had not been
told about Fatora's disappearance (but there was some weird spooky look in
his eyes when he looked at Makoto) but he was unable to tell the
difference between the two. Makoto, in his best female voice, told Galus
that he was sick and bedridden. Galus told Makoto that he would of brought
some medicine if he had know earlier. Makoto thanked him for being
considerate, and Galus asked what was wrong with his voice. Makoto got
nervous, and said that it was a side effect of the cold. Galus then left
the room, and while walking down the hall, he turned back, and said,
"Time for a change of plans"
