In het jaar 2029 worden mensapen door mensen gebruikt als testpiloot op
het ruimtestation Oberon. Op één van deze missies
verliest een chimpansee het contact met het ruimtestation. De
overmoedige astronaut Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg,
3 Kings, The Perfect Storm)
gaat erachteraan, maar krijgt pech en landt op een vreemd uitziende
planeet. Groot is zijn verbazing als hij ontdekt dat de planeet wordt
bewoond door sprekende 'beschaafde' apen en primitieve mensen. Samen
met een groep mensen wordt hij overmeesterd, als een beest geketend en
in een kooi opgesloten. Zal hij de primitieve mensen kunnen overtuigen
om te ontsnappen en een opstand te beginnen tegen de wrede
