Line Chennai - Madurai- Trivandrum

The name of the huge city Chennai, the capital of the state Tamil Nadu, is perhaps better known as Madras, but since this name reminds on the English colonial time it has been changed to its original name. Trivandrum is the capital of the state Kerala, and its original name is Tiruvanataraphuran. The most comfortable train is called Vaigai Express and has air condition coaches in the first class. They are necessary, because every time of the year is summer with around 32 C, only during monsoon rain the temperature drops down to 25 C.

This maps shows the main line, which is considered in this web-side.

The railway company operating the main lines is the Southern Railway, which was formed in 14th April 1951 through the merger of the three state railways namely Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway, and the Mysore state railway.
On the Webside of Southern railway (http://www.southernrailway.org/) you can find this detailed map, many information and also an on-line up-date about the actual location of the passenger trains.
