Germany - From Berlin and Saxonia
to Bavaria
The line from Berlin passes through the
Prussian flat land and soon reaches the cities Halle, Leipzig or
Dresden. Then the line becomes more and more hilly, and finally
near Saalfeld the mountain range of the "Thuringer
Wald" or near Hof the "Frankenwald" is passed.
After that, the line enters Bavaria and is flat again. After
passing Nuernberg the line reaches Muenchen, where most of the
train end.
Since 2002, the very comfortable ICE3 express trains have been
introduced and are running on this line from Berlin to Muenchen.
The coaches are very quiet and make the journey to a pleasure. In
the direction towards Berlin the second class compartment is at
the front of the train, and passengers can sit just behind the
driver and enjoy the view from the front window.

Halle/Saale Hbf. The picture is from 1992-05-04 and the
locomotive has just been assigned to the West-German number
systems, so the number is painted on the body replacing the iron
number-plate, which it had before. In the background the nice
station building and on the right the huge water supply tower.
