Barbershop

Hollywood gets it wrong so many times, that it is truly refreshing when it gets things right.  Barbershop could have turned into yet another racial joke and stereotype filled piece of brainless fodder.  Instead, it is a lighthearted ensemble comedy that realizes the effectiveness of simplicity of story and human interaction and natural conversation.  With star Ice Cube’s guidance and the directors soft handed balance of story and social observation, the film becomes a playful, touching, realistic break from movies that just try to hard to be something that their not instead of just letting the natural appeal of things come out.

Martin Lawrence:Runteldat

Ride life until the wheels fall off, not bad advice if you think about it.  Live life to its fullest and best, taking advantage of what it has to offer, taking the bumps and hurdles in stride, but still moving forward.  Sage advice from the otherwise crude and foul-mouthed Martin Lawrence, whose concert film Runteldat is part obscenity laden shock humor which borders on unfunny and intentionally shocking and part therapeutic soul baring and cleansing.  Dealing with subject matter from pregnancy, sex and child rearing, to his own bouts with legal trouble and mental illness, Lawrence is a figure that may shock, may offend, and may cross several lines quite boisterously, but there is no denying that he will always tell it like it is, so buckle in for the ride.
