The Exclusive California Song Interview By Tequila Mockingbird>
Tommy Lee is the most photographed drummer in the world. The camera loves him, women love him, the media loves him, and he’s just a whole lotta man. Tommy is on his publicity tour. I saw him on Regis and Kelly where just a few days before when Heather Locklear evoke his name by accident, even though they have been divorced since 1993. She remarried rocker Ritchie Sambora.
His book tour is taking him Coral Gables, Boston, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.
Tommy Lee likes watermelon martinis, toe cleavage, true love and his own penis,
As a matter of fact, he has a discussion with his penis. His penis tells him in the introduction “no matter what you write in this book of yours, I promise you, people will buy it for one reason to find out how long I really am.”
He played all over the world with Motley Crue, a premiere hair band from the 80’s.
He quit school and hit the road to rock the nation two months before he would have graduated. For Tommy, rock stardom came naturally; I was totally insane, seventeen year old maniac drummer an I was not going to be stopped”. The band went on to become one of the most successful heavy metal bands in history, selling millions of albums while also becoming the poster boys of rock star decadence.
He wooed and wed Heather Locklear and Pamela Anderson, not bad for a crazy rock guy. He and Pamela have two children and he is a responsible dad.
Tommy says” Rock and roll when its great is a complex monster. It’s dynamic, a unit full of parts, like all amazing music. There’s a singer, there the singer, there’s a guitar player, and a lot of people only pay attention to them. But you know what? I don’t care what anyone says-those guys aren’t the ones moving the house. The drums and beats do that, people.
Tommy is half Greek and all romantic. You can tell he is filled with love and passion. The way is explains himself, is as a serious man when it comes to his private life.
I went to the book signing for Tommy Lee at Tower records on the Sunset Strip. Tommy arrived to a barrage of Photographers including Lanning Gold and myself.
The fans were lined up for two blocks around the corner. Heavy Metal cheerleaders, of all ages flanked the tower walls to have a signed glimpse of their hero. He seems happy in the new land of apple martinis. His eyes were beamed with glee and contentment.
Tommy, sez “Hey Man, what’s happening?”
Doc Mc Gee underground rock hero is getting his book signed he is having such a good time. The crowd is screaming at the video camera. Outside of the record store Tommy’s making a DVD of his fan's and friends. Doc McGee takes his briefcase to his black Mercedes. Doc’s videographers hyped the crowd to a fever pitch in Tommy’s name. “Who’s she? “ asked the video men?” She’s a chick with a camera “ The good Doc said. My name is Tequila Mockingbird. Doc’s friends said are you a Tommy lee fan? I said yes!
I smiled my silly Punk rock smile content to see Tommy surrounded by friends and fans Nostalgia clouds me, bringing to life pictures in my head of the early days of big hair and Hollywood glam. Now the whole world knows about our scene, thanks to the bit of the devilment called Rock and roll.
