Biography:

It is often said that evil manifests itself in the most unlikely people. So it was in the case of Adolus Belger, one of Metro City's most affluent citizens.

Though few might have guessed by looking at him now, Belger was once a world-class martial artist who seemed to have no equal. His future looked promising, until a terrible car crash rendered him powerless to walk. Confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his natural life, Belger had no choice but to literally sit by, while his dreams of ultimate glory slipped right through his fingers.

As the years passed, Belger became increasingly bitter. His only passion in life had been the spirit of competition; without it, he felt worthless. Determined not to let his name be forgotten, Belger soon began exploring other ventures to acquire his fame.

The solution, he discovered, was Mad Gear. For years, the streets of Metro City had been haunted by dozens of teenagers, disgruntled youths all searching for their lot in life. It was there that Belger felt he could make the biggest impact, by providing those teenagers with a way to channel their aggression.

In the months that followed, Metro City became a veritable warzone as Mad Gear fought to oust all other gangs from the city, striking a whole new level of terror in the hearts of the populace. By seizing the assets of the fallen gangs, Mad Gear erected its own empire, through which all the city's criminal activity was controlled. And with no direct ties to the gang, Adolus Belger had only to sit back and watch his bank account grow, while his gang laid waste to Metro City's streets.

For over three years, Mad Gear had free reign over Metro City, until former CWA wrestler Mike Haggar was sworn into office. Thinking they could easily bend this new mayor to their will, the gang began offering casual bribes to Haggar, all of which were ignored.

Frustrated by the man's defiance, it was Belger who ordered Jessica's abduction, but it was a mistake he would not live long enough to regret. After a brief skirmish with Haggar, Cody and Guy, Belger met his demise, falling sixty stories to his death through the window of his exclusive Metro City penthouse.

But while the city has long been free of his influence, many citizens still shudder at the memory of Adolus Belger.
