Harker realized he is a prisoner and feels powerless. Mina receives Jonathan's letter stating he will be staying a month at Castle Dracula. Mina and Lucy take a trip to Whitby Harbour and stay at a house in the Crescent.
Harker had been told never to fall asleep in any other room in the castle but his own room. However, one evening, he fails to heed this warning and discovers himself in a room with three beautiful women. He does not know at the time if he is dreaming or awake. One of the women takes the note he has been writing and passes it on to another of the women as Harker seeks to get it back. He soon is overcome by tiredness and watches in fascination as they come towards him with evil looks on their faces. He is too tired to do anything but let them have their way with him.
Suddenly, Count Dracula enters the room with a satchel in his hand. In a voice which, though low and almost in a whisper seemed to cut through the air, he said, "How dare you touch him, any of you? How dare you cast eyes on him when I had forbidden it? Back, I tell you all! This man belongs to me! Beware how you meddle with him, or you'll have to deal with me." One of the women turned to answer him. "You yourself never loved. You never love!" On this the other women joined in and agreed. Dracula answers them, "Yes, I too can love. You yourselves can tell it from the past. Is it not so? Well, now I promise you that when I am done with him you shall kiss him at your will. Now go! Go! I must awaken him, for there is work to be done."
"Are we to have nothing tonight?"said one of them. Dracula pointed to the bag which he had thrown upon the floor, and which moved as though there were some living thing within it. The three "brides" of Dracula open the satchel and remove a young baby from it and drain all the blood from the infant!
Harker wakes the next morning, horrified at what had transpired the night before! He needs to find a way to escape and tell Mina what really is happening to him at the Castle. He writes a letter and hearing noises outside, he opens a window and sees a few gypsies loading some crates on a wagon. Harker gets their attention, throws the letter to them below, and using a form of sign language, tells them to post the letter he worte.
