Dino De Laurentis, the producer behind the '76 KING KONG remake, went on to make ORCA: THE KILLER WHALE the following year. In the movie, Orca goes on a vengeful killing spree after his mate and unborn child are brutally harpoon by a small group of seafarers, lead by Richard Harris. Because Orca is a sympathetic character...who violently kills people, guilty and innocent alike...he succeeds in his vendetta and is last seen swimming out to arctic waters. After Orca was completed, Dino De Laurentis was seriously considering a film where his loveable bloodthirsty whale would battle...you guessed it, King Kong! It may seem like a joke, but knowing Dino, his delusion must have had some merit to it at least. ORCA didn't do so well in the box office and no matter how minor or big the idea was, "King Kong vs. Orca" never got made.
