Touchstone Pictures optioned the novel MEG by Steve Alten, about an 80 foot long prehistoric shark. Jeffrey Boam, replacing original scripter Tom Wheeler, was set to write. This was one of several projects announced at the same time to capitalize on the Megalodon shark, and should not be confused with any of them, including another movie with the same title directed by Pat Corbitt and Gary J. Tunnicliffe.
