Kerr Smith

Kerr Smith, the bad guy, yet good guy, on Dawson's Creek was born and raised in Exton, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. His name, Kerr orginated from his grandmother's maiden name. Kerr has one younger sister, Allison. During high school at Henderson High in West Chester, PA, he preformed in his school play, "The King and I", playing Sir Edward Ramsey. "In high school, in addition to being class president at least once, he played lacrosse, and was on the academic team. Also, he played some club soccer for a few years, but did not play in high school. While in school, he was also very involved in politics," this according to Kerr's old friend, Eric Eisman. After graduating from high school, his father encouraged him to go on to college and get a degree. Following the advice, Kerr went to the University of Vermont and graduated in 1994 with a B.A. degree in finance and accounting. Returning home to Exton, Kerr started a marketing firm with his father, but soon learned it wasn't what he wanted to do. Because he had so much fun making business presentations, Kerr decided to try acting. Selling his car, and moving to New York, Kerr got a spot as an extra (which was also his birthday) in the movie, Twelve Monkies, starring Bruce Willis. After that, he was able to get a job on the day time soap opera, "As The World Turns", playing Ryder Hughes. His work on the show earned him the Best New Actor award from Soap Opera magazine in 1996.

In the coming months, Kerr will appear in two movies, one titled, Kiss and Tell where he plays an arrogant womanizer (filmed on location in New York and Washington DC), and the other, Hit and Runway, a romantic comedy, Kerr plays a gay painter. The movie is currently showing at national film festivals.

When Kerr isn't working on Dawson's (which he says takes up most of his time) Kerr said he enjoys playing the pianio (he's a self-taught pianist), writing music, computing, cooking, and playing with his dog, Maxine. He has a girlfriend, Ali, who lives in Los Angeles. When he has the time, Kerr also enjoys snowskiing, going to the gym, and golfing. According to the Dawson's Creek website (http://www.dawsonscreek.com) Kerr is working on a screenplay about a college incident. However, its subject will remain untold until it is finished.

Kerr's first work began while he was still in High School, when he performed in his high school play, The King and I. After going to college at the University of Vermont, and graduating with a degree in business and accounting, Kerr decided accounting just wasn't for him. Kerr moved to New York where he was able to get as spot as an extra in the Bruce Willis film, Twelve Monkies. After that job, and a commerical (anyone know what it was??) Kerr landed the role of Ryder Hughes on the daytime soap, As The World Turns. Working on it from 1996-1997, Kerr left the show to do other things. In 1998 he snagged a small role on Baywatch and then the role as Jack McPhee on the hit teen series, Dawson's Creek. According to a chat he did with Wanda at EONLINE, Kerr is currently being seen in Gateway computer commercials.
