From the 'ER' to the Big Screen: Noah Wyle Will Be Next TV Hunk to Become Movie Star, According to Survey by Blockbuster(R). Issue: Nov 14, 2000 'ER' Alum George Clooney Made the Transition, Stars in 'The Perfect Storm' DALLAS, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- If you're a TV actor who'd like to make the transition to movie star, it seems you should make a stop in the "ER." Following in the footsteps of former "ER" actor George Clooney, Noah Wyle (Dr. Carter) was selected as the TV star who'll most likely become the next to hit it big on the big screen, according to a recent survey by Blockbuster. George Clooney left "ER" to pursue a movie career and stars in the recent hit "The Perfect Storm," available both for rental and for sale on DVD or VHS at Blockbuster beginning today. When asked to select a current TV actor who they thought would be the next to become a movie star, Wyle was the top choice by a large margin ... especially among women. Dylan McDermott from "The Practice" came in second, followed by David James Elliott of "JAG." Perhaps even Regis Philbin has a future in film -- he narrowly missed the top five, placing sixth on the list. Here are the top five TV stars consumers think will make the transition from the small screen to the silver screen according to the survey: 1. Noah Wyle, Dr. Carter on "ER" 2. Dylan McDermott, Bobby Donnell on "The Practice" 3. David James Elliott, Cmdr. Harm Rabb on "JAG" 4. James Gandolfini, Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" 5. Eric McCormack, Will Truman on "Will and Grace" Blockbuster Inc. (NYSE: BBI) is a publicly traded subsidiary of Viacom Inc.
