10.The Score -- Frank Oz The best movie of the summer with one of the best casts of the year. Frank Oz shows he can do more than unforgettable comedies.
9. 15 Minutes -- John Herzfeld Of all the movies this year, this is the one that was able to surprise me the most. The best detective drama I've seen since L.A. Confidential.
8. Ocean's 11 -- Steven Soderbergh A huge cast, a great director, and a story so smooth I slid off my chair watching it.
7. Snatch -- Guy Ritchie Incredibly funny and creative Jewish British Gangster flick. Guy Ritchie is going places.
6. Donnie Darko -- Richard Kelly Like The Sixth Sense with a pulse, with a great performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and a creepy bunny rabbit.
5. Memento -- Christopher Nolan An incredibly creative story from Christopher Nolan, and a career-making performance from Guy Pearce.
4. Hedwig and the Angry Inch -- John Cameron Mitchell East Germany + botched sex change + rock n' roll = hilarious!
3. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back -- Kevin Smith Kevin Smith blesses us with the most laughs in one movie all year.
2. The Royal Tenenbaums -- Wes Anderson The most original comedy of the year. It found new ways to approach comedy.
1. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring -- Peter Jackson Superb writing, impressive effects, great performances, and there are two more to come. |
