Review: Runaway Jury

by Jake Sproul

Grade: C-

Although I am not the biggest fan of movies based on John Grisham novels, I do enjoy them as entertainment, and am especially fond of the suspense-filled The Pelican Brief. But there is nothing entertaining in Runaway Jury. Director Gary Fleder draws out the film to an overall running time of 127 minutes, and while you think the suspense that you suspect has been bubbling below the surface for two hours is ready to burst out in a climactic sequence that you hope will leave you with a rush of adrenaline never appears, you will be as disappointed as I am when the credits begin to roll. Not even a powerhouse performance from Gene Hackman can keep your interest through this snoozer. Runaway as fast as you can from any theatre playing Runaway Jury.
