J THE PACIFIER (2005): After the kidnapped scientist Lt. Shane Wolfe (Vin Diesel) if attempting to rescue is killed Wolfe is given the duty watching over his five kids who include two teens and young girl a toddler and an infant while their mother travels to Switzerland to retrieve a safe deposit box which could hold the key to finding Ghost, a late scientists invention with the power to use a satellites to take over control of the nuclear missiles of any country. Wolfe has to protect them but also faces the trouble of helping the elder female learn to drive while fighting off her teen angst, helping the elder male open up to people since his father's death and help him to be himself all while managing a girl scout troop and learning to change diapers. Good laugh for a family film and some of the best storylines for it's genre which includes the likes of Kindergarten Cop and Mr Nanny although this stands far and beyond either of those films. Manages to be both funny and touching at different times and flows well enough to keep you interested. This is the first action man in a family setting movie I've seen that even tries to be a good movie instead of trying to create a movie around the odd situation and it pulls it off well. (COMEDY/ACTION/FAMILY/THRILLER)

J THE JACKET (2005): The film centres on a military veteran who returns to his native Vermont suffering from bouts of amnesia. When he is accused of murder and lands in an asylum, a well-meaning doctor puts him on a heavy course of experimental drugs, restrains him in a jacket-like device, and locks him away in a body drawer of the basement morgue. The process sends him on a journey into the future, where he can foresee his death (but not who did it or how) in four day's time. Now the only question that matters is: can the woman he meets in the future save him?  (THRILLER/DRAMA/FANTASY)

J COACH CARTER (2005): In 1999, Ken Carter, a successful sporting goods store owner, accepts the job of basketball coach for his old high school in poor inner Los Angeles, Richmond, where he was a champion athlete. As much dismayed by the poor attitudes of his players as well as their dismal play performance, Carter sets about to change both. He immediately imposes a strict regime typified in written contracts that include stipulations for respectful behaviour, a dress code and good grades as requisites to being allowed to participate. The initial resistance from the boys is soon dispelled as the team under Carter's tutelage becomes a undefeated competitor in the games. However, when the overconfident team's behaviour begins to stray and Carter learns that too many players are doing poorly in class, he takes immediate action. To the outrage of the team, the school and the community, Carter cancels all team activities and locks the court until the team shows acceptable academic improvement. In the ensuing debate, Carter fights to keep his methods, determined to show the boys that they need to rely on more than sports for their futures and eventually finds he has affected them more profoundly than he ever expected. (DRAMA)

J HOSTAGE (2005): Haunted by his failure to save a child from a suicidal madman, hostage negotiator Jeff Tally leaves Los Angeles to become police chief of upscale suburb Bristo Camino. Unbeknownst to the gunmen, their hostage is actually a numbers runner for West Coast kingpin Sonny Benza, and the house contains evidence that put him away. Facing heat from associates in New York, Benza kidnaps Tally's wife and daughter and blackmails him into procuring the incriminating evidence. But the situation escalates even further when Tally discovers that Mars is a serial killer who is eyeing the hostages, and possibly his accomplices, to be his next victims.  (CRIME/DRAMA/THRILLER)

J CONSTANTINE (2005): Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book Hellblazer and written by Kevin Brodbin, Mark Bomback and Frank Capello, Constantine tells the story of irreverent supernatural detective John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who has literally been to hell and back. J HELLRAISER - DEADER (2005): A journalist uncovers an underground group who can bring back the dead and slowly becomes drawn into their world. Hellraiser: Deader is better than the last instalment, Despite the massive amounts of gore/sex/violence, its painfully obvious that this was shot on a low budget. The movie runs 84 minutes, and if your expecting to see more of Pinhead, you will be let down because his screen time is limited. Check it out and see for yourselves. (MYSTERY/THRILLER/HORROR)

J IMAGINARY HEROES (2004): The Travis family façade is destroyed by an event incomprehensible to them -- an event which will open locked doors and finally reveal the secrets that have haunted them for decades. (COMEDY/DRAMA)

J ARE WE THERE YET (2005): The fledgling romance between Nick, a playboy bachelor, and Suzanne, a divorced mother of two, is threatened by a particularly harrowing New Year's Eve. THE BOOGEYMAN (2005): On the surface, Tim (Barry Watson) is a seemingly normal, twenty-something guy. He's got a decent job and is moving fast in his relationship with his girlfriend Jessica (Tory Mussett). But an intense, paralyzing fear that has been terrifying him since childhood is tearing him apart. And it's getting worse every day. When Tim was eight, something devastating happened. Each night his dad would put him to sleep with a bedtime story. Many of these stories teetered on the brink of horror, much to his mom's chagrin, but Tim and his father made sure his bedroom was safe when the lights finally went out. Until that one fateful night. As Tim watched from his bed, paralyzed with fear, his father was violently sucked into the closet, and was never seen or heard from again. Tim is terrified that the Boogeyman will someday return and take him as he has taken so many before. Until now he has coped by eliminating opportunities for the Boogeyman to get to him. He has removed every dark corner in his apartment; there are no closets, and his bed is on the floor so the evil force has nowhere to hide. The thought of getting a jacket out of a closet sends him spiralling into terror. When Tim is forced to move outside his comfort zone on a Thanksgiving trip to Jessica's parents, he leaves this protected world and things begin to fall apart. After a disturbing dream about his estranged mother (Lucy Lawless), Tim awakens in a cold sweat, hunched over on the floor of the guest room. Jessica tries to comfort him, but it only makes things worse. His cell phone rings. His mother has died. Forced to return to his childhood home, a looming and run-down Victorian Gothic house in the countryside, Tim must tie up family matters with his Uncle Mike (Philip Gordon) and face the source of all his fears. After the funeral, Tim visits the children's psychiatric hospital where he spent many years after the disappearance of his father. His former counsellor reiterates what she has known all along - that in order to get over his fears, he must spend a night alone in the old house and confront things head on. Tim tries to relax and enjoy a reunion with his childhood best friend, Kate (Emily Deschanel) and for a brief moment feels everything is under control. But as Tim relives the past, drifting through the dark and empty house and rummaging through old photographs, memories take over and his crippling fear returns. He is sure he is being watched by the same evil being that has terrorized him his entire life. Tim becomes irrational and delusional to everyone around him, but no one can save him; or themselves. His loved ones start disappearing around him and his life is shattered all over again. He knows that the only way to stop the nightmare is to confront the evil presence once and for all. Tim turns to the only other person who understands and shares his fear, Franny (Skye McCole Bartusiak), a precocious and mysterious young girl who first appeared at his mother's funeral. It turns out that Tim and the little girl have something in common. She is the only one who sees what he sees......and Tim draws on Franny's courage and advice to face the Boogeyman once and for all. As the lines separating what is real and what is not have vanished, Tim must now fight to put the evil force and the demons to rest in a final battle to save his life. But how can he know what is real and what is imagined? (MYSTERY/DRAMA/THRILLER/HORROR)

THE AVIATOR (2004): Focusing on his early years (from the 1930 production of 'Hell's Angels' to the 1947 test flight of the Blue Spruce, when he was 42), this is the story of how young Howard Hughes transformed a small fortune into a massive one. The son of the Texan inventor of an amazing drill bit who died when he was 18, leaving him with 75% of the "Hughes Tool Co.", Howard Hughes (Di Caprio) quickly moved to Los Angeles to become a Hollywood film producer, where he helped launch the career of Jean Harlow and other starlets, and producing such classics as Hell's Angels, The Front Page, Flying Leathernecks, and Scarface (the 1932 original), eventually owning RKO Pictures. Hughes' legend came not from focusing on just Hollywood, however, as he simultaneously branched into industry after industry, including aviation in 1932 (including TWA Airlines), and during WWII, defence, leading to the creation of the (infamous) Spruce Goose, a flying boat of immense size. After WWII, Hughes' expansions continued, with an electronics company that was integral to the evolution of the satellite, and Hughes' several Las Vegas casinos (though this film may be ending before he moves there). This film will also focus on Hughes' romances with Hollywood stars like Katharine Hepburn (Blanchett) and Ava Gardner (Beckinsale). (Huston plays the president of TWA; Baldwin plays the president of their competitor, Pan Am)... (DRAMA)

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (2004): "The Phantom of the Opera" is a magnificent tale that begins when an opera ghost terrorizes the cast and crew of the French Opera House while tutoring a chorus girl. He finally drives the lead soprano crazy so she and her friend leave. The girl is able to sing lead one night but the soprano doesn't want her show stolen so she comes back. The ghost demands they keep giving his protégé lead roles. Meanwhile, His pupil falls in love with the Vicomte de Chagny, but the Phantom is in love with Christine, his student. The Phantom is outraged by their love and kidnaps Christine to be his eternal bride. Will Raoul, the Vicomte, be able to stop this dastardly plan? Watch and find out... (MUSICAL/DRAMA/ROMANCE/MYSTERY)

ALEXANDER (2004): Conquering 90% of the known world by the age of 25, Alexander the Great (Farrell) led his armies through 22,000 miles of sieges and conquests in just eight years. Coming out of tiny Macedonia, Alexander led his armies against the mighty Persian Empire, drove west to Egypt, and finally made his way east to India. This film will concentrate on those eight years of battles, as well as his relationship with his boyhood friend and battle mate, Hephaestion. Alexander died young, of illness, at 33. Alexander's conquests paved the way for the spread of Greek culture (facilitating the spread of Christianity centuries later), and removed many of the obstacles that might have prevented the expansion of the Roman Empire. In other words, the world we know today might never have been if not for Alexander's bloody, yet unifying, conquest.  (WAR/DRAMA/ADVENTURE)

STAR WARS: "CLONE WARS" (2003): Immediately after the events of Star Wars-Episode II: Attack of the Clones, the Clone Wars continue. The Separatists launch masses of Battle Droids while the Republic has an entire arsenal of Clone Troopers to blow them away. Obi-Wan Kenobi and his apprentice Anakin Skywalker are also participating in the fights against Count Dooku and his defiant separatists. Jedi Masters Yoda and Mace Windu, take part in the battle as well. While down on Coruscant, Padme Amidala, Chancellor Palpatine, C-3PO and R2-D2 hope nothing but good for our heroes. Will the Republic emerge triumphant? Will Dooku and his separatists be brought to their knees? And will Anakin truly bring balance to the Force, or will he bring absolutely tyranny?                         (ACTION/FANTASY/Sci-Fi/ANIMATION/SHORT/ADVENTURE)

LIFE AQUATIC (2004): Internationally famous oceanographer Steve Zissou and his crew--Team Zissou--set sail on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, elusive, possibly non-existent Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner during the documentary filming of their latest adventure. They are joined on their voyage by a young airline co-pilot who may or may not be Zissou's son, a beautiful journalist assigned to write a profile of Zissou, and Zissou's estranged wife and co-producer, Eleanor. They face overwhelming complications including pirates, kidnapping, and bankruptcy. (COMEDY/DRAMA)

BE COOL (2005): In this sequel to "Get Shorty", Chili Palmer (John Travolta) is tired of the movie production business after being forced to make a useless sequel starring Martin Weir (Danny De Vito). When a music producer friend (James Woods) is gunned down, he offers to help his widow (Uma Thurman) run the business. Checking a talent (Christina Milian) that Woods had been talking to him about puts Chili at odds with a sleazy music manager (Vince Vaughn),his gay bodyguard (The Rock), and his equally sleazy partner (Harvey Keitel). Woods mismanagement of the music company also gets Chili threatened by members of the Russian mafia and a suburbian rap-mogul producer (Cedric The Entertainer) & his thugs led by his bumbling relative (Andre Benjamin). All turns out well when it is determined that Uma had at one time been the laundress for Aerosmith and making contact with Aerosmith leader Steven Tyler at a Lakers game, gets their protege a duet with Tyler at an Aerosmith concert. Robert Pastorelli also appears as a slobbish hitman, who bumbles an attack on Chili. Contains profanity (including the one gratuitous use of the f-word, which Chili cites in using it as the only use permissible without getting an R rating in movies), lots of gunplay and other violence, and mild sexual situations. (COMEDY/CRIME/MUSIC)

SEED OF CHUCKY (2004): The killer doll is back! The all-new film is the fifth in the popular series of Chucky ("Child's Play") horror comedies. Making his directorial debut is the franchise creator and writer of all five films, Don Mancini. The film introduces Glen (voiced by "The Lord of the Rings" star Billy Boyd), the orphan doll offspring of the irrepressible devilish-doll-come-to-life Chucky (again voiced by series star Brad Dourif) and his equally twisted bride Tiffany (again voiced by Jennifer Tilly). When production starts on a movie detailing the urban legend of his parents' lethal exploits, Glen heads for Hollywood where he brings his bloodthirsty parents back from the dead. The family dynamics are far from perfect as Chucky and Tiffany go Hollywood and get rolling on a new spree of murderous mayhem; much to gentle Glen's horror. Chucky can't believe that his child doesn't want to walk in his murdering footsteps, and star-struck Tiffany can't believe that the movie will star her favourite actress, Jennifer Tilly (playing herself), who soon becomes an unwitting hostess to this new family in more ways than one... (HORROR/COMEDY/CRIME)

RACING STRIPES (2005): In the middle of a raging thunderstorm, a travelling circus accidentally leaves behind some very precious cargo--a baby zebra. The gangly little foal is rescued by horse farmer Nolan Walsh, who takes him home to his young daughter Channing. Once a champion thoroughbred trainer, Walsh has given up horse training for a quiet life with Channing on their modest Kentucky farm. The little zebra, or "Stripes," as Channing calls him, is soon introduced to the farm's misfit troupe of barnyard residents, led by a cranky Shetland Pony named Tucker and Franny, a wise old goat who keeps the family in line. The group is joined by Goose, a deranged big-city pelican who's hiding out in the sticks until the heat dies down in Jersey. The un-aptly named bloodhound Lightening keeps a lazy eye on goings-on at the farm - in between naps. The Walsh farm borders the Turfway Racetrack, where highly skilled thoroughbreds compete for horse racing's top honour, the ultra-prestigious Kentucky Crown. From the first moment Stripes lays eyes on the track, he's hooked--he knows that if he could just get the chance, he could leave all those other horses in the dust. What he doesn't know is--he's not exactly a horse. But with characteristic zeal, he devotes himself to training for the big time, with a little help from Tucker, who has coached a host of champion racehorses in the past. (FAMILY/ADVENTURE/ANIMATION/COMEDY)

WHITE NOISE (2005): Interesting. Intense. Somewhat original. All words to describe a conversation with Johnny Betts. But they also apply to Michael Keaton's White Noise. What we have here is a ghost story that tackles the subject of electronic voice phenomenon, or, as the cool kids like to call it - EVP. For those of you who, unlike Johnny Betts, aren't master ghost hunters, EVP is the alleged communication by spirits through the white noise of staticky radio stations, television stations, and other electronic devices. People truly believe in it, and if you do a quick search on the Internet then you can find plenty of websites with audio files they say prove the existence of EVP. Detractors will brush this off with explanations of the "chaos theory" and cross modulation. I'll let you do your own research if you're interested in the subject. If you're looking for a factual exploration of EVP's possible legitimacy, then you won't find it in White Noise. This is a movie that takes a subject popular with ghost hunters and glorifies it. It reminds me a little of The Mothman Prophecies, which was a fictionalized account of what was supposed to be a "true story." I have no problem with that. That's what movies are all about. (MYSTERY/DRAMA/THRILLER/HORROR)

ALONE IN THE DARK (2005): Edward Carnby (Slater), detective of the paranormal, unexplained and supernatural, investigates a mystery (the recent death of a friend) with clues leading to "Shadow Island" that brings him face to face with bizarre horrors that prove both psychologically disturbing and lethal, as he discovers that evil demons worshiped by an ancient culture called the Abskani are planning on coming back to life in the 21st century to once again take over the world... and only he and a young genius anthropologist with an incredible memory (and his ex-girlfriend), Aline Cedrac (Reid), stand in their way, at a gateway to hell. Standing in Carnby's way, however, is the impact that a brief encounter with an evil spirit called the Queen had upon his mind, as he slowly finds himself overpowered by the forces of darkness as they eat away at his very sanity... (HORROR/THRILLER/ACTION)

POOH'S HEFFALUMP MOVIE: All in all, this is a movie for kids. We saw it tonight and my child loved it. At one point my kid's excitement was so great that sitting was impossible. However, I am a great fan of A.A. Milne's books which are very subtle and hide a wry intelligence behind the childlike quality of its leading characters. This film was not subtle. It seems a shame that Disney cannot see the benefit of making movies from more of the stories contained in those pages, although perhaps, it doesn't have the permission to use them. I found myself wishing the theatre was replaying "Winnie-the-Pooh and Tigger too", instead. The characters voices were very good. I was only really bothered by Kanga. The music, however, was twice as loud in parts than the dialog, and incongruous to the film. (ANIMATION/FAMILY)

IN GOOD COMPANY (2004): Dan Foreman is headed for a shake-up. He is demoted from head of ad sales for a major magazine when the company he works for is acquired in a corporate takeover. Both men are going through turmoil at home. Dan has two daughters, Alex, age 18, and Jana, age 16, and is shocked when his wife tells him she's pregnant with a new child. Carter, in the meanwhile, is dumped by his wife of seven months just as he gets his promotion. Dan and Carter's uneasy friendship is thrown into jeopardy when Carter falls for, and begins an affair with, Dan's daughter Alex. (COMEDY/DRAMA)

DEAD BIRDS (2004): In Civil War America, a band of confederate outlaws take refuge in an abandoned plantation. Led by William (Henry Thomas), they plan to rob a bank that is temporarily storing a cache of Confederate gold. The rest of the group includes Sam (Patrick Fugit), Todd (Isaiah Washington), Annabelle (Nicki Aycox), Clyde (Michael Shannon) and Joseph (Mark Boone Junior). But when the robbery results in a bloodbath, the six flee the town, aiming for Mexico. Threat of an impending thunderstorm makes the outlaws take shelter at a nearby isolated and presumed deserted plantation house. As the night wears on, each member of the group begins to have visions of the atrocities that occurred within the house. As the fear in the group begins to grow and the supernatural forces in the house start to manifest themselves, the six turn on each other and exact the wrath of the souls trapped alongside them. (HORROR/THRILLER)

NATIONAL TREASURE (2004): Since childhood, Benjamin Franklin Gates has known that he is descended from a long line of people whose job is to guard a treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers, who hid clues to its whereabouts in the country's currency and on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now, he has learned of a plot to steal the Declaration, and has only one option: steal it himself. Even if he pulls off this monumental task, keeping the treasure safe is still going to be incredibly hard, especially since the FBI has also gotten wind of the scheme. (ACTION/ADVENTURE)

THE MERCHANT OF VENICE (2004): ¬Shylock has grown wealthy through the abomination of money-lending.. the only profession open to Jewish businessmen of that time, as Christians were forbidden to do so, by their religious law. Thusly, Shylock faces indignity and danger when he ventures beyond the Jewish quarter, where, routinely, he meets upon intolerance. In the same city, though in a different world, lives Antonio, a Christian merchant beset by worry over the fate of his trading vessels and his increasing isolation from his young, carefree, best friend Bassanio.
