AFJROTC Mission and Objectives
The mission of the AFJROTC Program is to develop an awareness of the impact of
the aerospace age on us as individuals, on our society and on our way of life, to
provide for the practice of effective leadership techniques, to develop an
understanding of the military command structure, the need for discipline, and to
acquire a knowledge of military drill and ceremonies.
In accomplishing this mission the AFJROTC Program is designed to meet the
following objectives:
A. Encouragement of a high degree of personal honor, responsibility,
self-reliance, and leadership.
B. Develop pride in our nation and its honorable traditions and an
understanding of the requirements and obligations of good citizenship.
C. Develop respect and obedience to proper authority and understand and
accept military courtesy.
D. Develop the ability to perform basic military skills of military drill and
ceremonies.
E. Develop a knowledge of and appreciation for the traditions of the Air
Force.
F. Develop a knowledge of career opportunities in the Air Force and the
aerospace community.
G. Develop qualities of honorable behavior, high ideals, self confidence,
and responsibility for the consequences of one’s actions.
H. Develop good personal appearance including neat military grooming,
cleanliness, and proper wear of the military uniform.
I. Develop habits of orderliness, precision, and attention to detail.
J. Adherence to the Cadet Honor Code: “WE WILL NOT LIE, STEAL,
OR CHEAT, NOR TOLERATE ANYONE AMONG US WHO DOES.”
Basic Concerns
a. The Aerospace Science Course introduces the historical, scientific, and
the technical aspects of aerospace. Leadership Education provides
experiences to develop discipline, responsibility, communication skills,
and citizenship. Leadership Education also includes wearing the Air
Force Uniform, the proper use of Air Force customs and courtesies,
participating in drills and ceremonies, giving and receiving instructions,
and acting as leaders and members of the FL-51 Group. YOU DO NOT
INCUR A SERVICE OBLIGATION BY PARTICIPATING IN THE
AFJROTC PROGRAM.
b. LEGAL AND REGULATORY BASIS
PUBLIC LAW 88-647.The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps
Vitalization Act of October 13, 1964 is the authority to operate Air
Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AFJROTC)
programs in secondary schools. It states that cadets must be
physically fit and at least 14 years of age.
AFROTC REGULATION 53-1, AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC
(AFJROTC) Curriculum, describes the curriculum of the AFJROTC
units. It gives guidance for organizing the cadet corps and provides
other direction in the operation of the FL-51 AFJROTC Group.
AFROTCR 53-1 is the primary reference for this guide.
c. To be eligible for membership in the FL-51 AFJROTC program you must
be:
a U.S. citizen or an alien applying for permanent residence.
a student in the 9th grade or higher at FWBHS and of good moral
character.
physically fit to participate in AFJROTC training. (You are
considered physically fit in you are qualified for the Fort Walton
Beach High School physical education program).
d. Students may transfer from Army, Navy, Marines, or other
AFJROTC units with full credit and rank for training already
received.
e. You many be disenrolled for:
failing to maintain acceptable course standards, failing grades,
improper haircuts, unacceptable grooming, incorrect uniform
wear, failure to wear the uniform when required, inaptitude,
indifference to training, disciplinary problems, or undesirable
traits of character.
f. A Certificate of Completion is presented to a student in good
standing who has completed at least three years of the AFJROTC
program. A cadet must have this certificate in his/her possession
when enrolling in a college level ROTC program, or when enlisting
in the armed forces, in order to gain the benefits of successfully
completing the AFJROTC program.
1. With the Certificate of completion, the cadet may be excused
from one year of the General Military Course (GMC) of the
senior AFROTC program. This privilege must be arranged with
the Professor of Aerospace Studies (PAS) when enrolling at the
college or university.
2. If the AFJROTC cadet elects to enlist in the armed forces, the
Certificate of Completion will allow enlistment in pay grade (E - 3)
in the Army, Navy, Air Force. Enlistment in the Marine Corps will
be in pay grade (E -2). This provides for immediate monetary
benefit. It also places the cadet eligible for promotion ahead of
other enlisted personnel who enter at the same time.
NOTE:In order to receive the benefits outlined in the above
paragraph (1-2, f-2), the Certificate of Completion must be
endorsed by and/or accompanied by a letter from the ASI
recommending enlistment at the higher grade. It is possible to
receive the certificate and NOT receive the endorsements or
letter from the ASI.
g. A Certificate of Training is presented to a senior cadet in good standing
who completes two years of the AFJROTC program.
1. With the Certificate of Training, the cadet may be excused from
one semester of the General Military Course (GMC) of the senior
ROTC program. This privilege must be arranged with the
Professor of Aerospace Studies (PAS) at the time of enrollment in
the college or university.
NOTE:These certificates are not awarded automatically, based on
academic grades. Consideration is given to total performance and
achievement as a member of the unit. It is possible to complete the
course and not be considered to have met the total requirement for
award of this certificate. Final determination for this award rest
with the ASI and with the principal of Fort Walton Beach High
School.
