ESA's ARTEMIS Satellite

ESA’s communication satellite Artemis (Advance Relay and TEchnology MISsion) has undergone its final testing at ESA’s Technology centre ESTEC in Noordwijk the Netherlands, were I took these photographs on September 26, 2000.

In March 2001 Artemis left ESTEC for this summer’s launch by an Ariane-5 rocket. Unfortunatly, due to some problems with the Ariane-5, the satellite came in the wrong orbit. Recovery operations are underway to safe the satellite.
