Everyday Stuff

3/25/00- Well, Spring Break has finally arrived; all I can say is that it sure took it long enough. I'm going to be lazing about all week, that's for sure.

Yesterday we had meetings with our guidance counselors about schedules for next year, and when I went to the Guidance office to wait, they were showing Independence Day on the TV in there. Then in Spanish we were watching a video, well, actually we were supposed to be watching and Jeremy, Anwar, and I were talking. The point is that I got to leave to go to the Dodgers spring training game. My mom suprised me with it and it was great fun. There were three half drunk college kids there yelling stuff like "Go Duecey Duece! Old Double Duecey! Way to put a spring in the ball!" and other nonsense.

I also went to the fair last night. At first it was just Anwar and his friend, Tim, and me, but then we met up with a bunch of other people. Near the end, when we went on the Ring of Fire, I figured I could go on one more ride. And, honestly, I would have made it if the carnies hadn't kept the ride going for five minutes straight. At the very end when it was slowing to a halt, I sudddenly realized that I had to get off. Then when I was coming off the stairs in the back, I couldn't help it. Oh well. That sucked, because pretty much all of my friends were there.

3/21/00- Stand back and strap in; it's Howdy Doody Time. Well, the county fair is in town. How can I be so sure? It poured all weekend. It always does, it's almost as if we're cursed. Anyway, I'm going to go Thursday or Friday because those are the stamp nights.

Supposedly, 0.999999..., with the nines going on into infinity, equals 1. What?! Has the world gone insane? If so, what's the point of math if numbers can just equal other numbers? It's times like this that I ponder the existence of a god.

3/18/00- It's frightening; I think I'm beginning to get a life. Not a big one, mind you, but a life nevertheless. Last night a few of my friends and I hung out, first at Andrea's house (with her stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, really stupid brother hanging around bothering us. He tries so much to be like my friend John that it's not even funny), then we drove to McDonald's. Matt and I went straight to the playground there and started climbing up the tunnels. This guy who works there came back and told us we couldn't play in the ball-pit, so I figured we'd have to go inside, but then he told us we could play in the tunnels. Amazing! So Matt brought a tray for extra speed on the slides, and I ended up whacking my nose with it. It was great though, and I'm just suprised that they let us play there (even though the ball-pit is the best part).

Then we went to Wal-Mart and got food coloring for Andrea and Monique to dye John's hair. I don't know why he let them do it, but oh well. While we were there Anwar bought this classical CD, which has some great songs on it. Then we drove back to Andrea's house where they dyed John's hair red. Meanwhile, Anwar and I were annoying Andrea's brother with the classical music, and then I massacred him in NBA Live 97, 133-73. I showed absolutely no mercy because I hate her brother so much.

Oh yeah, earlier in the afternoon I was jumped by two 9 year olds in my neighborhood, I just ended up tossing them around for a little bit, just to entertain myself.

3/12/00- Hey. Well, not too much has happened recently. My brother and sister came here for their Spring Break, while mine doesn't start for a while yet, and it will probably suck because a bunch of my friends will be in Hawaii on a band trip. That's really all that's been happening lately; pretty dull, actually. Oh yeah, on Friday I saw Mission to Mars. It's great. I loved it, and highly recommend it to anyone who cares. It was a lot like 2001: A Space Odyssey, and it even had a few funny parts. Bottom line is that it's great.

3/1/00- You know, it's a lot easier to amuse yourself with a group of friends with access to a car. I discovered this not last Friday but the week before when Anwar, John, Matt, Monique, Andrea, and I went bowling.

First Anwar, John, Matt, and I played football in the parking lot and played pool and air hockey. I suck at pool but I was on John's team and we won, suprisingly. Then I became the Air Hockey Champion of our group. I was playing Anwar and was beating him like 5 to 1, and he started making a comeback! It would have been the greatest comeback in air hockey history, I'm sure of it, if I hadn't finally won. That game lasted like ten minutes. Then John beat Matt, and I played John for the championship. The ending was the stupidest I've ever seen: the puck was at John's end and moving slowly away from him when he somehow knocked it in his own goal. I mean, people do that all the time, but the puck was barely moving and it was fairly far away from his goal. Hilarious. Then we finally bowled.

We had a million bucks riding on the second game. The first game I had a 70-something while John nearly got 200. I figured I was screwed, but for some reason I got a 146, a personal high, the second game and beat John! Now, I suck and John kicks at bowling, but I somehow got lucky. For the second time in a row that we had a million bucks riding on bowling, I won.

After that we went to McDonald's and I put a bunch of straws together to get a super long one. I stood on the seat drinking from my cup that was on the floor as a bunch of people walked past. John even heard a large black guy say to someone, "Did you see that crazy white boy with the skraws?" Ah, youth.

2/27/00- Hey. Well, it's been a while since I last updated, but I've been really busy. Last week I missed Thursday and Friday of school to go to my grandmother's funeral. It's weird, before I used to feel really uncomfortable when I was missing school, but the more I miss, the less I care. I guess I used to feel obligated to go to school, but now I just don't care anymore. Well, I've got to go, I'll update soon.

2/2/00- Hey. Well, Saturday was fun; I had a math competition over in Tampa. To make a long story short, it was great fun, and I ended up with a shirt that says my name is Sherwin and that I work at Grandstation Automotive. Oh, and we all made a pact that since next year the Superbowl is going to be in Tampa, a bunch of my friends and I will all drive over there the week before or so to just check things out. That'll be really cool, if we even remember what we plan to do at the time.

Let's see, today was ok, I pulled a neck muscle so that sucks, and I also sprained my ankle. We're planning our schedule for next year, and we have to put down what classes we want to have before we even get any information. I already know that I'm going to change a few classes when I get the chance. Our whole system is screwy at my school.

Man, I can't believe the Superbowl. It was a great game and all, the best in history, but one thing ruined it for me (besides the halftime show, that doesn't count because I was fixing something to eat), the fact that someone quoted Mike Tyson! What's the world coming to?

1/27/00- I've been tired all week, I think I may be coming down with that flu that's been going around. It seems to strike at night when I go to bed and in the morning. It really sucks, but I'm still healthy enough to go to school, even though I have a headache most of the time.

Chemistry sucks. My lab group is Erin, who does work, and Brett, who fools around all the time. Brett is one of my good friends, but I hate working with him. He spends most of his time at another table talking to people. Plus my teacher is getting annoying again. In English, though, we're reading "Julius Caesar", and everytime the line says "Peace, ho" or "Stand, ho", everyone cracks up and the teacher gets mad. Immature, I know, but we need something lively to keep from falling asleep.

You know what's really ridiculous? Some graduate of my high school, Kenny Holmes, is playing on the Tennessee Titans, so now that he's going to the Super Bowl, my English teacher kept going on and on about him the other day. That got old right there. Then, today on the announcements, the principal came on and told everyone to wear blue tomorrow because it's "Kenny Holmes Day". I can't believe it! I mean, sure, he's going to be in the Super Bowl, which is excellent for him, and sure, I guess I can understand being proud of him and all that, but is it really necessary to have a day named after him? It's ridiculous. I'm sure that plenty of other VBHS graduates have done things, too, but just because he plays a sport means he gets a freaking day to honor him. I'm not actually mad at Kenny Holmes, since I never met him, but I am mad at my principal or whatever bonehead decided to make this day. Oh well. I guess I'm done now, and remember, Happy Kenny Holmes Day Eve! Ooh boy.

1/17/00- I had an interesting weekend. On Saturday I went to the movies and saw the Sleepy Hollow movie. Man, that movie was so bad! There were a couple of OK parts, but for the most part it was crap. I made fun of the movie the entire time. Then yesterday I had a birthday party at the beach. It was fun, about five of my friends came and we played football on the beach and other stuff. The water was so cold! I can't believe I went in. Oh, well, that's about it.

1/10/00- I have exams all week this week. Oooh boy. I've already had two hard ones, math and chemistry, today, though, so I got those over with. Oh man, why is it that I only seem to have to go to the bathroom when I can't? It happened last night when I was watching Toy Story 2, and it happened at the worst time in chemistry. Ten minutes after class had started I was ready to rush out of the class, but no, my teacher wouldn't let me. I had to hold it for an hour and fifty minutes (yes, I counted), while I was taking my exam. Let me tell you, it's really hard to concentrate on what percentage of an element there is in a compound when nature's calling.

Tomorrow I think I'm going to go to the beach after school. That'd be a nice way to relax after taking exams, I think. Although actually tomorrow will be the easiest day since I have English, which I already wrote the essay for, and basketball, where I'll play two hours of pick-up games. I hope that one kid doesn't want to start any trouble, because he really gets annoying when he does. I'm not going to get in a fight with him, because I've got a sense of self-esteem so I don't need to beat someone up to get my kicks. It just tries my patience.

I suppose that's it. I'll update sometime soon, I guess. Or something.

1/5/00- Happy not-quite-new-millenium, everybody! Well, as anti-climatic as it was (and the whole year will probably be), I did have a pretty good New Year's Eve for pretty much the first time. I went to a party that ended around ten thirty or so, it was a party that my friend's, Jeremy, dad holds every year for any of his students that want to come or people on the Masterminds team. He's an English teacher. Anyway, my brother goes every year because he was on the Masterminds team, and this year I went to. I had fun. It was strange, because Jeremy's sister seems like an exact clone of him! They look a little bit alike and act identically. At least I think so. Anyway, I had fun at that.

Then I went home and watched Austin Powers until the ball dropped. My friend Anwar thinks he was the first person to use the microwave this year, I don't know. Every year I have a glass of champagne, because every year I forget how much I hate the taste until after I take a sip. At least this year I didn't spit it out.

Actually, looking back, it wasn't that great a New Year's Eve, but I had fun at the time. School started Monday, and I was not ready. I have a test in History tomorrow, so I should be studying right now, but I'm not. The highlight of my days now is lunch because all my friends are fun.

12/28/99- Wow, I can't believe that there's only three days untill 2000. It seems strange. Anyway, Christmas was fun, I got some cool stuff like a watch, some CDs, some clothes and a couple of computer games. Anyway, I've been entertaining myself these past days, trying to enjoy myself as much as possible.

Oh, by the way, if you're interested in a good movie, I saw Man on the Moon and it was excellent. I'd heard that Jim Carrey did a good job, and it's true. I'd seen some documentary stuff of Andy Kauffman before, and at times in the movie I couldn't tell that it was Jim Carrey acting as Andy Kauffman. I had to remind myself of it a couple of times.

Let's see, what else. Well, knowing me, New Year's Eve is going to be really anti-climatic. I am not a party animal, and I'll most likely spend it with my folks. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just that it's the last year of the 1900s, millenium stuff, and so on, and it seems like something special should happen.

I'll be back.

12/22/99- Merry Christmas Eve's Eve's Eve. It's hard to believe that it's so close to Christmas already. Of course, that may have something to do with the 80 degree weather I've been having down here. I'm not complaining, but I'm not ecstatic about it, either. It gets a little bland having the same weather, with the exception of rain, all the time.

Hmm...what's happening? Not much, really. I'm just enjoying sleeping in. Yeah, that's right, untill eleven even. So there. Actually, that's nothing compared to my college siblings. The other day my brother stayed in bed untill 2:30. Wow.

12/17/99- Well, I made it. No more school until Jan. 5 or so. Today was pretty cool, in Chemistry I had a test which I think I failed miserably. Man, my chemistry teacher is screwing me over! I got a 104 on one test, which is great, but lots of people did poorly on it. So he had an extra credit worksheet, which I did, and he didn't count mine. My friend got an 80 something on the test and ended up with a 102. And then I went to this extra credit astrology thing on Friday night last week. He didn't show because it was cloudy, and he wouldn't give any credit to the people who were there. He didn't even let us know that it was cancelled! Then my group gets a worksheet back with a 60 because we didn't put grams on about ten problems, and he marked off for a question that said "Honors Only" that I wasn't supposed to do. And he won't even listen to me!

Then, in basketball, I played excellently. We played pick up games of four on four to 11. Of course, some jackass had to ruin it for me. For some reason he was mad at me, and he kept pushing me from behind a bunch and even went so far as to kick me. I was getting angrier and angrier each time, and even got up in his face, which I don't do very often. Then I have the ball and am looking to pass it to someone when he just slams into me. I slid backwards for a few feet and then sprang right back up. The strange thing was that he backed off even though he's a senior and is bigger and stronger than me. Anyway, I brush that off and keep on playing until later I dive for a loose ball, the same time as he does. I got the ball and am on my knees when I pass it, and he gets tangled up with me, and then starts kicking me! It seems that the only time he did anything was when I wasn't looking or was on the ground. Anyway, I kept my head and then just started to take out my aggravation through playing even harder. That's when I really started whooping it up. He left a little bit after that, so I consider myself the better and the winner there.

Then in third block we had a girls' basketball game that I went to and wrote an english essay during. It was a pretty good game even though we squashed them something like 50 to 30.

Oh, man! I just realized that I left my PE clothes in my locker! They're going to be stuck in there for a while! Oops.

12/12/99- Man, I've got mixed feelings about this being the last week of school before Winter Break. On the one hand, we do get out, and no more school untill next year, but on the other hand, all my teachers, and I do mean all, are rushing to get us to turn everything in this week. I've got two tests, two essays, and a big project in all my classes combined. Not fun.

On the bright side, though, I finished my project and one of my essays, which I didn't think I'd be able to do. I even went to the library. Now, I like to read, but I hate going to the library. It's too quiet. Right now, for instance, I've got an Everclear song blasting out of my computer speakers. I like to have good music playing while I think.

12/11/99- Hey. Not much happening lately, just waiting for school to end for Christmas break. I've still got a week to go, and I don't know if I'm going to make it. I have this weird thing where I always get sick the week or so before Christmas break. It's happened the past three years. Hopefully this year will be different, but I doubt it.

I got my hair cut yesterday, and the barber that I got was much better this time. The last one cut my mole with a razor and blamed it on me. Oh well.

12/8/99- Happy birthday to my brother, James. Actually, it was yesterday, but better late than never. Oh, and a very merry unbirthday to everyone else. That is, unless it's your birthday today, in which case Happy Birthday. Never mind.

Man, I feel like such a loser. I tried to talk to this girl I like, but everytime I try I end up coming off like an idiot. It never fails. I'd like to ask her out sometime but I'm certain that she'd say no. Oh well.

12/4/99- I'm bored. Bored, bored, bored. The highlight of my day today was playing football with a few of my friends. I killed them, of course, since we were playing tackle and I'm in 10th grade while they're in 8th, and small for 8th graders at that. Still, I had Brad's little sister Mo on my team.

Can't really think of anything at all to say. My brother's birthday is the seventh and I still need to get him a present. Hmm. Like I said, a boring day today.
