DeCody's Tombstone
Section 1, Lot #888, Grave 1, Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Ohio
Stone Design by DeCody Brad Marble
Stone made by Ashland Monument Company, Ashland, Ohio.
Front of the Tombstone:
A highly polished jet black stone acts like a mirror, reflecting the foreground.
The oval metal plate colored photo of DeCody was taken within weeks prior of shipping out for Desert Shield/ Desert Storm 1990 -91, a sergeant of the U.S. Army.
The Art work represents the paternal and maternal family tree stretching back to the ancestors.
Inscribed upon the base,
“Visit Marble’s Ancestors on the Internet”.
Back of the Tombstone:
A tombstone, serving as an Ancestral Cemetery Plots Map Marker, for 7 Generations of a First Family of Ashland County, Ohio, Knapp/Marble.
On the back face of the tombstone, all the thick white lines represent the roads on the Westside of section one of Ashland Cemetery. A curvy solid blue line is the creek, running along the south side of section one, by DeCody’s gravesite. As you stand at DeCody’s gravesite, (you are here), X and as you look at the back of this tombstone, your back will be facing South at the creek and you will be facing North, properly oriented to read the map correctly to find the ancestor gravesites plotted.
The numbers of the ancestor gravesites plotted correspond with the numbers representing each generation of the 7 generations. The emigrant ancestor, (2) MICHAEL KNAPP’s Lineage was accepted into the First Families of Ashland County, Ohio, FFOAC, under Ashland County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, OGS on 16 November 2004.
(4) Magdalena Knapp Marble, DeCody’s great grandmother lived at 723 West Main Street. A gap in the backyard fence made by two trees provided access to the Ashland Cemetery. Magdalena would lead her grandchildren through this passage in order to plant and water flowers on the family ancestral plots. For DeCody, this initially stimulated his curiosity to learn of his heritage and his family tree.
