About year 1890; Great Great Great Michael Knapp who emigrated from Germany and who is now recognized as one of the First Families of Ashland County. Attached photo is Michael with his four sons...... KNAPP Lineage was accepted into the First Families of Ashland County, Ohio, FFOAC, under Ashland County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, OGS in October 2004. Obituary of Michael Knapp: November 8, 1900 Death of Michael Knapp, of Ashland On last Saturday morning, Mrs. Charles Graf received the sad intelligence of the sudden death of her father, Michael Knapp, Sr., in Ashland at 8:00 o'clock that morning. Mr. Graf and family left for the above place on the noon train to attend the funeral obsequies. Mr. Knapp was born in Alsace, France, June 11, 1832 and emigrated to his country in 1849, when he located in Orange township, Ashland county. In 1855, he visited his native country and after a short stay returned here with his aged mother. On February 10, 1857, he was married to Miss Magdalena Milheim, of Orange township, from which vicinity, after a residence of 13 years, he moved to Ashland, where he resided until the-time of his death. This union was blessed with several children, all of whom, with the exception of one son, are still living. The deceased was aged 68 years and about 5 months. Funeral services were held from his late residence in Ashland, on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock P. M. Rev. Suter, of Galion, officiator. Interment in the Ashland cemetery. Mr. Knapp was one of Ashland's well known and most respected citizens, and leaves a wife, six children and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. ...................................................................................... At the age of 17, Michael Knapp migrated from Alsace, France. He was on the ship "SPLENDID". The ship departed the Port of Le Havre, France and arrived in New York Harbor, U.S.A on December 6, 1849.
