The main character of this story. She has been on the
NYPS's 17th precint force for 6 months. After losing
his mother in an accident when she was a child, Aya
grew determined to come a detective.
Although quiet on the surface, she can be very
stubborn and unyeilding. She and her partner, Daniel,
called the "father and daughter team", occasionally
get into arguments because of her stubborn nature.
Kunihiko Maeda
A scietist who resides in the pharmaceutical department at a Japanese university. He is a very competent scientist, but completely indifferent to everything else. When he is engrossed in his research, he sometimes doesn't return home for days.
For this reason, not only his clothes are untidy, but his hair is perpetually uncombed. Naturally he has no luck with women.
After an incident that took place a number of years ago, he was devoted his studies to mitochondria.
Ben Dollis
Daniel's only son. After the divorce, Daniel takes Ben into custody, but his mother is given visitation rights once a month. He appears to be fine with his parent's divorce on the surface, but deep down inside he hopes that they will all live together again someday.
With Christmas just around the corner, he plans for his parents to get together. While visiting his dad's worklplace, he befriends the police dog, Shiba.
Daniel Dollis
A veteran detective who believes that "a detective belongs in the field", is not on the road to a promotion any time soon. Perhaps because of his passionate feelings for his work, Daniel and his wife Lorraine got a divorce a year ago.
Later, after insisting that a boy needs his father as a role model, he took custody of his 8-year old son, Ben.
Daniel is Aya's senior as well as parter and father figure.
Douglas Baker
A big man weighting 300 lbs. He started on the same year as Daniel, but is now Daniel's and Aya's boss. Daniel and Douglas were once partners ans solved many crimes together. But, Douglas gradually shifted towards deskwork in contrast to Daniel who concentrated on the crime scene.
He used to be close to Daniel's ex-wife, Lorraine, and spend time with their family, but after promoted to chief, they began to drift apart. There were rumors that he had special feelings for Lorraine and remains single to this day.
Hans Klamp
An American of German descent. He is a scientist who is cool, calm and diffirent who had previously aspired to become a doctor. His talent seemed promising, but during his internship he suddenly became absorbed in the study of mitochondria.
He dislikes communicating with others around him and has moved from laboratory to laboratory. He is very knowledgeable about genes and because of his new study that included information about mitochondria, he is attracting a lot of attention. After the incident at Carnagie Hall, Aya and Daniel pay him a visit, and he tells them something surprising that will greatly affect Aya.
Melissa Pearce
Her long awaited wish to play the leading role comes true in an opera to be held on Christmas eve. Although she is an introvert and was constantly sick as a child, she began to aspired to become an actress after learning about opera. She occasionally commutes to the hospital even now and is always carrying some sort of medication.
