Heather's Greyhound Page

Hi Everyone! This page is all about GREYHOUNDS.

My family and I have adopted three greyt greyhounds from Hollydogs Greyhound Adoption. Our greys have brought alot of happiness to our lives (along with our other pets)

Here are some questions and answers about the sweet and gentle breed of the greyhound:(information courtesy of Hollydogs Greyhound Adoption)

Greyhounds have a life span of about 15 years. Ususally they are retired between 1 and 5 years. A 4 or 5 year old racer will retire with having done over 100 races.

Greyhounds have a gentle nature. They are not aggressive. The muzzle they wear during races is to protect their noses and aid in determining the winner of the race. Greyhounds aren't good watchdogs.

When you first get them from the kennel (adoption agency) they are not house broken they are "kennel broken". Which means that they will not go to the bathroom in their crate/kennel. Housebreaking is(usually)easy. Greyhounds are definately indoor pets. They cannot be trusted offleash because they are sighthounds and can see easily for up to half a mile. When they see something...Poof! Their gone. They don't have any understanding of "traffic" and love to run. You can let them out in your backyard as long as it is fenced in. Some cities (like mine) even have a dog park.

Greyhounds are so loving and gentle all they want to do is please you and make you happy. They do love to run and play, they play in our backyard for hours. Britta, my shepherd, and Zeus are the best of friends! They don't need more exercise than any other dog, they are pretty much coach potatoes. In my house you need to fight the dogs of the couch for it.

Here are some pictures from Hollydogs Greyhound Gala in November. It was a wonderful event! Everyone got dressed up including the greys & we had contests, tributes & dinner (there was even a little room for the greys to relax if they were tired & their were 2 greyt grey tables with food just for the greys!) Hope you all like the pictures! They are truly greyt!
