BACK OFF
If you have an Anatolian, or multiple dogs in your household, the command “BACK OFF” can be invaluable! The command is actually good regardless of your canine situation. I learned this command from Erick Conard of Lucky Hit Ranch and his teaching method is superb. I strongly recommend that you go to his training site HERE. And learn how to use this command. If your dog learns NOTHING ELSE, he should learn the BACK OFF command. This could save your dog injury and you a lawsuit.
STACK or STAND
Whether you call it stack or stand or something else, it’s still the position that your dog is in for the show judge to examine them. From the time you get your puppy, periodically stop them from whatever they are doing and put them in the stack position. I personally use the stay command with this, but some teach the stack as an automatic stay. In the stack, the dog is standing square, with his weight evenly distributed on all four feet. The front feet should be placed straight down from the shoulder, even with the body and the toes pointing forward. The back feet should be slightly outside the line of the body and extended just slightly back. Imagine a rectangle on the floor (if you have a place, you can even put tape down as markers. Place the front feet on the INSIDE of the line at the top front corners and the back feet on the OUTSIDE of the line in the back corners. When you place the dog’s front feet, reach across either from the top or underneath - depending on the size of the dog. Grab the leg at the elbow and you can place the foot anywhere with little fuss. If you grab the foot, your dog is more apt to fight you on the placement. If you have a mirror, set it up so you can watch how you look positioning your dog. You want to present yourself well - along with your dog.
Above all, enjoy your dog. Appreciate and love him. He will be your loyal companion, worker, and friend for life!
