Andy's SIMPLE REUSEABLE blackpowder motor!!








Have you ever made a really cool motor that worked well and still have the urge to do another? This happens to me all the time! The problem I had was I only make one motor at a time. That way if there is a problem I can fix it before I do the next one. This motor that I devloped can be used over and over again( as long as there are no problems with the motor. ie. worn or damaged casing)!




Step one:

Gather ALL materials.

    Al foil
  1. Super glue
  2. Roung pencial or pen
  3. Fuse
  4. sish-ka-bob or light balsa stick
  5. Blackpowder. GOEX FFFg works fine




Step two:

Make the casing.

  1. Cut a piece of foil about 12" wide.
  2. Fold it in half long ways until the foil is 2/1/4" wide.
  3. Roll foil on the pencial or pen untill you have about a 1/4 of an inch left. Then put some superglue on the last 1/4 inch of foil to hold it in place. Be very carefull not to get any glue on the pencial or pen because the casing WILL NOT COME OFF.
  4. Pull casing off the pencial. Let dry for about 5 mins.(just enough time to get a drink:)
  5. Measure two inches form the end of the pencial and put a mark there.
  6. Slide pencial back into casing untill the mark is at the end of the casing. Fold the remaining casing over the pencial. Put some superglue on the last fold. This makes an endplug.
  7. The casing should be two inchel long now.
DO NOT USE ANY THING ELSE FOR A CASING. A METAL PIPE OR TUBE WILL TRUN INTO SHRAPNEL IF THE MOTOR CATOS!!!!THE FOIL WILL ONLY TURN INTO CONFETTI. I know this because I've had three motors cato.


Step three: Ataching a stick.
  1. The stick needs to be 12"inches long.
  2. Cut a strip of foil thee inches long by two inches wide.
  3. Put some superglue on the last 1/4 inch of the strip and put this on the casing.
  4. Put some glue on one side of the stick and hold stick on the casing and wrap the foil strip around the stick applying the superglue every 1/2 turn.
  5. Let dry.( Just enough time to get a snack, yum:} The rocket is finished!!!!! It should look like a bottle rocket.


    Loading the motor.
    1. Fill 3/4 the way with blackpowder.
    2. Insert a piece of green visco fuse. Or coat a mop string with Blackpowder and use that as a fuse.
    3. Finish filling the motor with Blackpowder.
    4. Crimp the motor closed so no blackpowder falls out.




    Thats it, you're finished!!!! Now put in a bottle, light fuse and retire. This motor does not have a nozzle. When the Bp ignites the gas builds up so fast thet the crimped end is forced open and the rocket is propelled through the air. SAFETY NOTE: Check the ground for any small fires. Cut the end off the sihska bob stick, so it won't poke any body. CHECK THE CASING FOR DAMAGE BEFORE TRYING TO FLY IT AGAIN. A worn casing will cause a cato. Let the rocket cool before re-filing with propellant. Don't fly around or over dry trees and bushes.

    One final note: This is not a supersonic high altitude rocket. My BEST ones have only goten around 30 to 40 feet. A great snack for your rocket hunger! HAVE FUN!!!
