Chapter 7 - A Story Told And A Promise Made

"So, what you're saying is that you are eighteen years old and four months pregnant?" Brian recapped what I had told them. I had been talking for about an hour and a half, telling them about what my parents and brothers had done when I had told them about the baby.

"And your parents haven't talked to you since they told you that they had disowned you? Only two of your four older brothers are talking to you? Nick added.

"Yes, that is what I am saying. And on top of all that, Jake, keeps bugging me. He wants absolutely nothing to do with the baby but he still wont leave me alone."

"That's not right. Now, if he wanted to be apart of the child's life I could understand but he has no right to bother you if he wants nothing to do with the kid. He should leave you alone."

I got a little shy then. "I will understand if you guys donut want to see me again. I know that Des and Hope will want to hang out with you guys but it is okay if you donut want me around." I thought that they wouldn't want to be around me now that they knew that I was pregnant and had a guy following me around, making my life a living hell.

I saw them exchange looks. Then Brian spoke. "How could you even think that? Why wouldn't we want you around? We wanted you to spend time with us before we knew. Why would this change our minds? It isn't really your fault. He was bigger then you and drunk. There was nothing you could have done. And I understand your beliefs about getting rid of the baby."

"Yeah we understand what you are going through. And it sounds like you are seriously thinking about living here. After the baby is born. We are going to be here for about a year because we are working on a project. If you stay here you are going to need someone to turn to. Especially if Jake shows up," Nick chimed in.

"Are you sure?"

"Like I've told you once before, I only say what I mean."

"You guys are the best! Most of the guys I know would have totally blown me off." I gave them each a big hug. I was so happy. They didn't care that I was going to have a baby.

"Well, were not like most guys." Nick said with a smile. I then watched as they exchanged a meaningful look.

"Nick can I talk to you for a second?" Brian asked.

"Yeah sure. Hold on for a second, Faith."

"Sure. No problem."

They walked side by side until I was out of hearing range. They talked for about five minutes, and they seemed to be debating something. When they finally came back over to where I was sitting in the sand, looking at the ocean, they each sat on one side of me.

"Faith we have something to ask you and then we have something to tell you," Nick said, sounding serious.

"Okay."

"Well, have ever known anyone famous?" Brian inquired.

"No, not really."

"Okay, one more question. What would you think about knowing someone famous?" Nick asked.

"I think it would be cool, but I also think that I would still think of them as a friend. I would try to treat them normally."

"Okay. Have you ever heard of the Backstreet Boys?"

"Probably. I donut pay much attention to who sings the song as I do what the song is about."

"Oh, okay."

"Okay."

"Well, we are all here for some much needed rest" He chickened out. He was afraid that I would treat him and the guys differently dispite what I had just said. MEN!

"So why were you guys singing at the church?" They looked at each other. Nick wasn't going to say anything and Brian had chickened out. Backstreet Boys? Where have I heard that before? Then it hit me. I had heard them on the radio, in the car the day before. On the way here. And boy could they sing!

"Umm…. We just love to sing so we thought that we would sing in the church," Nick said without really thinking.

"And Aaron's also a singer?" They nodded. "Cool."

"The reason that I brought all my siblings is because I haven't really got to spend a lot of time with them the past few years. Plus my parents are going on a cruise for their Twentieth wedding Anniversary and they need someone to watch the kids."

"Brian what time is it?"

"8:00. Whoa, we should probably get back before the others get up and wonder where we are."

"YUP! C’mon you two. Lets go."

"Were coming!" Brian pulled me to my feet and we ran to catch up with Nick. Just as I was about to go inside he called after me. "Faith?"

"Yeah?"

"What's up? You're quiet."

"Yeah? Sorry."

"Its okay. You just didn't say much."

"Sorry about that. I was trying to think of where I heard the name of that group before. Then it hit me. I heard one of their songs on the way here. To Seaside."

"Really that's sorta funny. Well, I'm just glad that this wont effect the way you act around us."

"Huh? What are you talking about?","

"Nothing. Don't mind me. Now lets go inside it is cold out here."

"Yeah. Good old Oregon weather."

"You've lived here your whole life? I can see why you would want to stay. It is beautiful. It is so…..so....."

"Green?"

"Well…..yeah."

"Yup! I love it here, but I also would like to get away from it all and see what else is out there." Brian opened the back door that lead into the kitchen, and I walked in. Brian followed while talking.

"Yeah, I know what you mean. I felt the same way about Kentucky."

"Kentucky?" We sat down on the couch in the living room, the one that Nick and I had been sleeping on.

"Yeah. I'm gonna have to remember that you don't know all of this."

"Why would I? I just met you."

"True. I don’t know why I said that."

"Well, fill me in!"

"Okay. As you know, Kevin is my cousin. We both grew up in Kentucky, he on a farm the first nine years of his life and me, well I grew up singing in church choirs in Lexington. Then Kev's family moved to a modern log cabin, closer to the city. He sang in the choir in church too...." Brian spent the next hour telling me about his child hood.

I laughed at all the things that he had done and was on the verge of tears when he told me of he near fatal heart problem. He was so much fun to talk to! By the time he was done giving me his life story, everyone else was up.

"Well, Fai, we should probably get back and get ready for the day," Hope said, standing in front of me.

"Yeah, we really should be going," Destiny added.

"Okay. Lets go then!" I got up and walked towards the door. Nick, Brian and AJ followed. I gave Nick and Brian each a hug. When I hugged Nick he held me a little tighter then Brian, but I didn't make anything of it.

"Remember what I told you two! No, blabbing now OK?" I said when he let me go. AJ looked puzzled.

"Yeah, yeah, we know!" Nick said with a smile.

"And you remember what we told you. You cant go and blab either!"

"I wouldn't do such a thing! Plus you didn't tell me anything!"

"Oh, well! You just make sure you don't!"

"Okay, I will! Bye, guys!"

"Bye! Oh, wait we don’t have your girls’ phone number!"

"That's right you don’t." I pulled out a pen and grabbed Nick’s hand.

"674-3641." Then grabbed Brian's hand and wrote the same thing.

"Here." I handed Brian the pen and held out my hand. He took my hand and wrote on it. It was more then one phone number.

He talked as he wrote. "674-7659, my cell 319-6477, Nick’s cell 319-8182, Kev’s cell 319-4681, AJ’s cell 319-3946, and Howie’s cell 319-4791. There you go. That way no matter what you can get a hold of one of us."

I looked at my hand and there was almost no skin showing. "Oh my! C’mon girls lets go and let them get settled in their new home. I need to get these down on paper. Bye guys!"

"Bye, Faith! Bye, Destiny! Bye, Hope!" All three of them called at the same time. We made our way down the stairs, listening to the guys laugh at themselves.

We got into the car and Destiny drove down the hill. "That was one of the best nights of my life!" she said.

"Yeah I know. I had so much fun. They are all really nice!" Hope put in. I was lost in thought and didn't really notice when we got back to our tiny little house.
