Chapter 8 - Reactions and Feelings

****From Brian's View****

As I watched the girls leave, I smiled. It had been two months since I had met Faith initially and I had been wondering what had happened to her. I guess it was just luck that she ran into Nick yesterday.

And I can’t believe that I chickened out on the beach! I really wanted to tell her. I guess I was just scared that she would treat us differently.

We walk back inside, Nick, AJ and I. The others are all awake and eating breakfast. "So, what do you all think of our new neighbors?" I asked.

"They are very nice. I like Faith!" was Angel’s answer.

"Yeah, she was really nice, and so were the other two. Destiny seems cool. And Hope is like an older sister," BJ said.

"I like Faith! She was really nice and sweet. She even fixed Nick’s head when he hit it on the TV!" That was Aaron. It sent everyone laughing lightly.

"Yeah, Bri, Faith is a very sweet girl. I think that the three of them are going to be a lot of fun to have around this summer." Kevin spoke up. The others agreed.

I looked over at Nick. He had a funny look on his face. I walked over to him. "What’s up, Frack?"

"Frick, I need to talk to you...alone."

"Okay, sure. Lets go up in to your room or something." We walked up the stairs and into the room that Nick had claimed as his. He didn’t have any of his stuff up because the girls had come over last night. "Well, what do you need to talk to me about?"

"Faith." I should have known. Our little Nicky likes Faith.

"Yeah, what about her?"

"Well, I like her - a lot. I know we only met yesterday, but I feel like we really connected. When we were sitting there listening to her tell us about her problems, I just wanted to hold her, tell her that everything was going to be okay and never let go."

"Yeah. That is really too bad about her family. But anyway..."

"I also think that if you would have told her who we are she wouldn’t treat us any different. She seems to fit so naturally with the group. Hope and Destiny are nice girls but I don’t think that they are going to be spending nearly as much time here as Faith is."

"Yeah, Faith said she was seriously thinking about moving here. Start over. But I have a question for you Frack."

"What?"

"What do you think of her being pregnant with another guy's baby?"

"Well, I think that if she doesn’t want to give it up, because of her beliefs then that’s okay by me. I also think that she is going to need someone to rely on. I want to become good friends with her."

"I think that would be a good way to start out. Just make sure that she trusts you and once you gain her trust don’t blow it. I have another question. What do you think about the whole situation with Jake?" I asked.

"I think that unless he wants to get his butt kicked, he’ll leave her alone while she’s around us."

"I agree. It is our duty to make sure that she doesn’t get hurt by him anymore."

"Yeah. I think so too." I got up to leave. Right before I walked out of the room Nick called me back.

"Yeah Nick?"

"Thanks for listening to me, man. And please, don’t tell her about this."

"I won’t, don’t worry" With that I walked downstairs. I walked over to the phone, right next to it was a pad of paper. I took a pen and wrote the number that Faith had written on my hand, down on the paper.

****Later That Week****

"What are we going to do today?" I asked everyone, as I walked into the kitchen.

"I don’t know. We could call the girls and see if they have anything planed. We haven’t seen them since Thursday." Kevin suggested.

"Is that okay with everyone else?"

"Yeah!" We had all decided that we liked the girls and that we wanted to become really good friends with them. I went over to the phone and dialed the number she had written on my hand two days before....
