Chapter 18

“Are you all ready to go?” Nick asked Krista for the 100th time that day.

“For God’s sake, YES!” Krista laughed,

“OK, just checking. I guess we better go get AC and then we have to say good bye to everyone.”

“OK. Let me just throw one more thing in my back pack.”

“I thought you said you had everything!”

“Just shut up and go get Aaron.” Nick obliged and left the room. Krista opened the drawer in the bed stand next to her bed. She took out a hardbound notebook and shoved it in her bag.

She took one more, quick glance around the room and walked out, shutting the door behind her.

Once she was downstairs and made sure that Aaron had all of his stuff in the car, it was time to say goodbye to the people she considered her family.

It had been a month since Jane had ‘caught’ them asleep on the same bed, and in that time, she and Nick were becoming better friends. He had made it his job to make sure that she was OK at all times.

During the first week or so that she was back in the house she had a hard time sleeping. Nick would go into her room and rock her to sleep. He usually ended up falling asleep in her room, with her still in his arms, but he didn’t mind. Neither did she.

And now they were going on a tour that would last three months.

It was going to be an adventure.

Back in the living room.

Krista hugged each of the kids; BJ, Leslie and Angel. She promised to call, and make Nick call. She then hugged Bob. The last person that she said goodbye to was Jane.

“Thanks for everything you’ve done.”

“It’s really OK.”

“Well, thanks just the same.” Krista pulled away and smiled at the woman that was more like her mom then her real mother ever was.

“Well, we’ve gotta go, or Kev is gonna have our heads!” Nick said, hugging his parents quickly and ushering both Krista and Aaron out of the house and to his car, which was packed with everything the three of them would need for the three months.

They got in and Nick started the car. The rest of the family had followed them out, but stayed on the porch. Nick looked as his family, glanced in the backseat at Aaron, and then over to the passengers seat, at Krista.

“Are you ready to do this?”

Krista looked at him and smiled. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” With that, Nick gave a wave to the remaining Carters and started backing out of the driveway.

They were off.
