Nick watched as Krista left the table and gracefully stomped her way up the large stair case. (What I mean by gracefully, think strutting her stuff!) He rolled his eyes and began to drink his soda.
"Doofus!" B.J. yelled to Nick as she kicked him in the chin.
Nick let out a loud yelp! Jane watched in horror as B.J. got ready to kick him again. Bob (Mr. Carter) stood up and took B.J. back to her seat. Brian stared blankly at Nick.
"Nickolas Gene Carter! She is a guest in our house for a year! Do you understand me? Now, I don't want any lip! All of us have grown to know Krista and her parents. Sadly, you don't know her on the level that the rest of us do. I suggest that you grow up. You are 19, now! Act like it!" Jane threw down her napkin and left the table.
BJ also left the table and headed up Krista's bedroom. She walked in to find Krista looking at a picture of Nick on the cover of a magazine.
"He's really not like this. I don't know why he is acting like this." B.J. said partially in her brother's defense.
"It's ok! I mean, you can't force him to like me. I can deal with the fact he doesn't like me. All I ask is that he keeps his comments to himself. Look, in here it says Nick Carter is known to be the nicest Backstreet Boy. Yeah, my Ass!" She said as she took the picture of Nick and ripped it down the middle.
"Well, ok then!" B.J. said while taking a deep breath. "You want to go play volley ball down on the beach later? They have lights, so we can play!"
"Yeah, sure! Let me just put on my swim suit and board shorts. I'll be down in a few minutes. Oh, and B.J. I'm sorry about my outburst at dinner, but can you blame me?" She asked.
"Just between you and me. That little outburst forced me to kick Nick in the shin. And, I am not ashamed to admit the fact that I enjoyed it!" B.J. said while laughing.
Krista went into her closet and pulled out her two peice and board shorts. She had dark blue halter bikini top that tied around the neck and matching blue bikini bottoms. She pulled on her grey board shorts and her sandals. She grabbed a towel and headed down the stairs.
Krista stopped in her tracks when she saw Nick and Brian dressed in almost the same outfit. Well, they had on boardshorts also. Which could only mean one thing. They would be coming along. Krista felt her shy self coming through. She walked over to B.J. and Nick watched Krista's every move.
"So, Krista? Do you play volleyball?" Brian asked nicely.
"Well...." She started but was cut off by Nick.
"Look at her Bri, does she look like she can play volleyball? Perfectly manicured nails. Not a single hair out of place. And look at her choice of swim wear. Do you think her mind is on Volleyball? Probably not. Her first priority is probably to find some guy to.." Nick started but was cut off by B.J.
"Nick? Your shin is purple! Now, you DON'T want the other one to match, do ya?" B.J. said giving him a warning glance.
Nick rolled his eyes and folded his arms across his chest. Krista was hurt by the comment Nick had just made. How can he judge her without even knowing her. Well, she wasn't going to let it get to her. They four of them hopped in Nick's camero. Nick watched Krista carefully through the rearview mirror. It was like he wanted to make sure she wouldn't reck his precious car.
When they got down to the beach, B.J. came up with the brilliant idea to draw straws. Basically, the teams weren't the way you would think they would be. B.J. was with Nick and Brian was with Krista. Which in the long run, was a good idea. Nick couldn't seem to stomach the fact that Krista was staying with them. But, Brian didn't seem to have a problem with it.
"Ready?" Krista said as she got ready to serve.
Brian turned and smiled at her. "Yup, go ahead."
"This should be real good." Nick said.
B.J. turned around, very well aware of Krista's skills in Volleyball. She laughed at Nick. "Oh, it will be Nicky my boy. It will be."
Krista jumped up and served the ball hard over the net. Brian's eyes went wide and couldn't believe that she hit it with such power and force. He smiled and realized they were gonna make a great team. Krista watched as Nick bumped the ball and set it for B.J. to hit it over. Brian was up at the net and he tried to spike the ball. He hit it hard, but Nick was their to block it. Nick saw that Krista had moved up from her position in the back, to the net. He grinned and spiked it with all his might. He didn't mean for it to hit her, he figured she would block it. But, he figured wrong and he spiked it right at her eye.
"GOD DAMN!" She yelled as she fell to her knees and covered her eye with her hand.
Nick's eyes grew wide as he realized what he did. He felt bad about the fact that he hurt her, but not that bad. B.J. ran over to Krista, but Brian was already by her side. Nick slowly walked over to her.
"Krista, move your hand honey. Let me see." Brian pleaded as he tried to pry Krista's hand off of her eye.
She stubbornly wouldn't move her hand. She didn't want Nick to get the satisfaction of seeing her cry. But, as she looked at Nick she thought he looked like he was sorry.
"Come on, Krista! Let Brian look at it. Please?" B.J. begged nervously.
"Ok.....fine. But, just please don't touch it!" She begged as she moved her hand away.
B.J. cringed as she already saw a bruise forming over Krista's tanned skin. Her pretty green eye was now red and teary. Nick also cringed at the site. Brian tilted Krista's head back so he could get a better look at it. She let Brian get up real close to her face, just as long as he promised not to touch. But, she did notice how nice he smelled while he was up so close.
"Well? Is she alright?" Nick asked. His voice sounding slightly agitated, and slightly concerned at the same time.
"You better hope so!" BJ said to Nick.
Brian placed his hands under Krista's arms and helped her up. He steadied her and then adressed Nick. Krista could barely bring herself to look at Nick.
"I think she'll be fine. Krista, your going to have a black eye, but at least your vision is still in tact." Brian said sweetly.
Krista was greatful for the attention Brian was paying to her. And BJ also. She couldn't understand what she had done to make Nick treat her so bad. Why was he being so rude to her, and why the hell did he hit the ball so hard when he saw her face right in front of his?
"Well, a black eye goes away. At least I can see." Krista said.
"I think we should get you back home. Come on Nick, pack up." Brian said.
BJ and Brian helped Krista back to Nick's car and they left Nick to pack up.
"Ok, my bestfriend and my sister are totally on her side? Why the hell does she already have Brian wrapped around her finger? That's not right! She even has the twins and Leslie on her side! See how much I miss when I'm gone! Ugh!" Nick said to himself as he packed up everything.
