"God, why can't I hear anything. Is this going to be permanent? Am I ever going to hear Nick, Katie, or even the guys again? Will I ever hear Jackie laugh?" Jenna said to herself.

Jenna contemplated all of these thoughts, while Nick held her head in his lap. He brushed her hair with his finger's soothingly. Finally, the rest of the guys arrived. Jenna watched as Brian exchanged words with Katie. She watched as Howie and A.J. talked to each other, and she watched as Kevin came over to Nick. That was all Jenna could do, watch!

"Nick! Take her to the emergency room! Take Brian's jeep. The rest of us will go back to Jenna's house and tell her parents." Kevin instructed.

Nick nodded in agreement. He carefully, and gently picked Jenna up. Jenna wrapped her arms tightly around Nick's neck. He led her out to the parking lot and into Brian's jeep. Jenna wondered where Nick was taking her. She knew he would hear her if she spoke, but she wouldn't hear his reply. She spoke anyway.

"Nick? Where are we going?" She asked.

Nick stuck the key in Brian's jeep, and turned his head to look at Jenna. He saw the fear in her eyes. What was he going to say? She wouldn't hear him. He reached over Jenna and looked in the glove compartment. Inside was a pad of paper and a dull pencil. Nick scribbled quickly down on the paper.

"Were going to the hospital!" Nick said.

He showed Jenna the paper and she read what he had written down. She just sighed and rested her head against the window. Nick gave her a reassuring smile, and then he placed his hand on top of her hand.

Nick and Jenna surprisingly were called into an examining room quickly. Jenna was able to fill out her medical history. Nick answered most of the questions for her. When they walked into the room, Nick stayed by her at Jenna's request. The nurse gestured to Nick to have Jenna put on one of the paper gowns. He smiled as he thought about how cute she was going to look in it.

"Stop that Nick! She is your girlfriend! Now is not the time to think of how cute she is!" He said to himself.

Nick picked up the folded paper gown. He shook it and held it up. He showed it to Jenna and wiggled his eyebrows. She was amused at Nick's ability make her laugh, even at a time like this. She sighed, hesitantly grabbed the gown from Nick's hands and went behind the curtain to change. When she walked back out, she watched Nick's lips curve up into a smile, and then followed his lips as they formed into a word. She couldn't hear him, but she read his lips.

"Wow!" He said. Nick was sitting on the examining table.

"Oh stop it! Please, this is a paper gown! I hope their aren't any sudden gusts of wind." She said jokingly.

Nick grabbed her hand and led her next to him. He was happy that she at least had a sense of humor at that time.

Brian, Katie and the guys had gone back to Tampa to tell Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan about what had happened. They immediatly dropped Jackie over at the Carter's and followed Brian to the hospital in Orlando.

The doctor had come into the room and began running some tests on Jenna. He ran a hearing test. Nick watched with hope as the doctor placed a head set over her ears.

"Now, raise your right or left hand. Depending on the side you hear the noise coming from." The doctor said.

Nick quickly scribbled down a shorter version of what he had said. Jenna nodded her head. Nick gave her a smile, and Jenna smiled back at him. As the test started the doctor kept switching the sides of which the sound would come out of.

"When are you gonna start the test?" Nick asked.

Jenna watched as she saw Nick talking to the doctor. She couldn't hear anything.

"I already started the test!" The doctor said.

She saw Nick's expression change dramatically. Nick had figured that she would regain her hearing by the time they had arrived at the hospital.

"Exuse me? Are you starting soon?" Jenna asked.

Nick looked over to the doctor and gave him a worried look. The doctor turned to Jenna. He placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Sweety! I already did." The doctor said.

Nick sadly wrote down what he had said. He showed her the paper, and Jenna's beautiful brown eyes began to fill with tears.

"I'll go wait for her parents! Stay with her, ok?" The doctor said to Nick.

Nick nodded. He jumped up on the table and grabbed Jenna's hand. The tears began to over flow, this caused them to fall down her cheeks.

"I am so scared! I can't hear anything, Nick! Nick? What is going to happen!" Jenna cried.

Nick wrapped his arms tightly around her. He held her for a few minutes. He hummed her one of his favorite songs 'Open Arms', even though he knew she couldn't hear him. He figured it would calm her down, maybe she would feel the vibrations in his chest. Or maybe he was doing it for himself. Trying to calm himself down. He had to get rid of the guilt that was building up inside.
