The majority of mail I get from this site isn't about the Bible, or Christianity. Most of the mail is asking where the bible belt is located. So I made this page to help out anyone who has any questions.

First off there is no definite geographic location of the bible belt, although when the biblebelt is mentioned it usually refers to the south. The bible belt generally refers to any area where Christianity runs rampant. I live in Panama City, Florida. This is the heart of the bible belt, I'll show you the reasons why, and if you see these in your area then you are in a bible belt.

The most common churches in the area are protestant. Usually Pentecostal, Baptist, Assembly of God, and non-denominational (usually named something like "Church of Christ", or "Bible Believer's House of Prayer") reign supreme. The Catholic church and others may have a few churches, but are far outnumbered.

There are a great many commercial sized billboards with ads about Jesus, or for little revivals. A lot of times spelled wrong. A few from my area read "Jesus is the anwer" and "Revivel To Nite".

The local government is run by Christians who have no problem disregarding the seperation of church and state. Bay County, Florida (the county I live in) has morality codes and ordinances. On a regular basis the Bay County Sheriff's Department has "morality sweeps" on local bars and clubs. For some reason it has been only on gay bars and topless bars.

When one of the county commissioners ran for office, he had an ad that stated the top ten reasons to vote for him. His number one reason was "I'm a Christian". He won. He has spent countless dollars of taxpayers money trying to get topless bars and "other non-christian businesses" out of Bay County.

One of our local shopper papers has full page ads for Jesus. If you have seen one of these ads as pictured below, you just may be in a bible belt.

Churches here outnumber many important companies. Here are some examples from the local yellow pages.
Churches - 10 pages
Condominiums - 5 pages (Panama City Beach is the number 2 tourist destination in Florida, and has too many condos)
General Contractors - 4 pages
Dentists - 8 pages

The local public access channel shows only church broadcasts.

Church pastors are among the highest paid in the area. Here are some average salaries I know of in the area.
Engineers - $30,000
Management in retail/food service - $25,000
Clergy - $50,000

You see road signs like the one below

Yes, those are all churches on that one road

You see more cars with Christian bumper stickers and Jesus fish than you see without.

Finally, there are signs like the ones below all over the place. They are home made and have scriptures that change on a regular basis.

Can you imagine what these do to your property value?
