Kaine's Final Fantasy 8
Junction Guide

E-mail, after E-mail, after E-mail... the 64,000 dollar question... can you teach me how to use the Junctioning ability?  Absolutely... can you please stop E-mailing me asking, now that I've made a page for it?  Sure ya can... good deal.  I'm basing this off of what I've learned ok?

Ok... Junctioning... a process of using/drawing energy by way of Guardian Forces.  Hard to understand?  At first, yeah it is... I had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to use it.  I'm still learning, but I'll post more as I learn more.

First, Junction a GF (Guardian Force) to a character.  I, for example, junctioned Quezacoatl to Squall.  Simple enough... yep.  This is your ticket to a game that doesn't consist of MP.  That's Final Fantasy for you... going above and beyond.  GF's are now like characters in battle... they have hit points and can be healed, killed, and brought back to life. Bolt

Ok... now that you've equipped your GF, you will have a list of 4 abilities you can use during battle.  These four things will always be available to you to use.  Others such as "Doom" or "Mad Rush" will be available to you with time and earning AP for your GF.  We'll get to that later though.

Ability
What's it do?
Attack
This ability is always in use and can not be taken away.  The character will use their weapon as usual in battle.
GF
Guardian Force.  This ability will allow you to call upon the powers of the Guardian Forces you have equipped.  Remeber, however, that GF's have been theorized to cause memory loss.
Magic
This will allow you to use magic that you have drawn and saved from enemies in battle.  Magic is only aquired by using draw points throughout the game and by drawing magic from enemies using the draw ability during battle.  Up to 100 uses of each spell can be drawn per character.  Also, you can trade, give, and take saved magic to and from your allies.
Draw
This ability allows you to draw magic and save it's energy.  This ability must be equipped to draw any magic.  Different enemies have different types and levels of magic.  Hint:  Cure is Cure1, Cura is Cure2, and Curaga is Cure3.  "ara" prefix is used for level 2 spells, and "aga" prefix is used for level 3 spells.  Some people have been known to draw Guardian Forces from enemies, so be sure you check all enemies to see what spells are available.

Your GF can learn abilities and status improvments.  Select GF on the menu screen, then select learn.  Set the ability you want to learn.  After battle, your GF can gain AP, which builds up those abilities for use.  For example, HP-J is short for Hit Point Junction.  Once that ability is learned, you can junction magic to your HP.

Many different types of abilities can be learned by your GF.  Things such as "Mad Rush", that can be learned by Ifrit, are abilities you can set on your list of options to use in battle.  Also, things such as Str+20%, Vit+40%, StrBonus+1 can be learned and put on a seperate list of GF abilities, which is located below your battle options in the ability section of the Junction option.

Fire Spell      Junctioning magic... connecting magic to your status in order to raise its stats.  What does that mean?  You can use your drawn magic to make your character more powerful!  Here's how...

First... draw a spell from an enemy.  Let's say you get two spells, cure and fire.  Squall has Quezacoatl GF junctioned and it has the HP-J ability.  Go to Junction, and then to the Magic option.  Click on the HP status bar and then select the spell cure.  See the total amount of HP go up?  That's how you Junction magic.

Final Fantasy 8 also allows you to automatically set your junction magic, without having to go through and do it manually.  Simply select the Auto option and select to junction according to Attack, Magic, or Defense.  Did you notice that the percentage levels of the spells aren't that high?  Here's how to change that...

You can hold up to 100 of each type of spell per character.  The more spells you have, the higher the percentage will rise or the higher the number will rise on your stats.  You can endlessly draw magic from enemies, so my advice to you would be to find a weak enemy and draw as many spells as you can from it.  Be warned though, that each character can only hold 32 different spells.  That sounds like alot, but later in the game, it's not.

Let's move on to your Status Junction.  This is also similar to your Magic and Elemental Junction, except you're working with status ailments.  Sounds pathetic like you don't wanna' waste your time with it?  Status Junction, believe it or not, can change the tide of the battle.  Recent Final Fantasy's have not allowed many status spells to work against the enemies you needed them to... for example, death and silence spells against tougher enemies, the opponent would be too strong to submit to one of these spells.  Not anymore.

Status Junctioning works according to the amount of the spell you're using.  Some enemies have immunities, but most enemies will sucumb to spells such as blind, poison, silence, death, slow, etc... when you have that spell equipped to your weapon.  The higher the percentage, the more often it will work.  Same way with defense... the higher the percentage, the less enemies can inflict a status ailment on you.  This comes in handy quite often.  Especially when all physical attack enemies battle you and can't hit you because they're blinded.  Very handy indeed.

Anyway, to wrap things up... EXPERIMENT!  Don't E-mail me asking how to junction your magic accordingly.  There are so many different combinations... there are things you are doing that I may not have figured out yet.  Just work with the stuff.  Try to draw a hundred of the best spells you can get ahold of, and test out what they can do.  I can tell you right off-hand that Ultima is the best spell you can get (as usual).  Remember... there are draw points all over the world... even on the world map in tons of places.  Keep searching.
