MILLER PARK & MILWAUKEE COUNTY STADIUM
Miller Park Jinx ???
July 4, 2001 -- A parachutist broke an ankle in an accident during a pregame ceremony at Miller Park on Wednesday night. Ralph Henderson, 51, of Delafield, a member of the Sky Knights Sports Parachute Club of East Troy, failed to descend through the retractable roof and landed instead on a track beam next to the field lights several hundred feet off the ground.
Another parachutist missed Miller Park altogether, landing at the site of the old County Stadium.
Two other parachutists landed successfully in center field during the ceremonies that followed the National Anthem.
Miller Park opened in April, a year late after a crane accident in July 1999 killed three ironworkers.
There have been various troubles at the stadium.
The roof leaked in April.
The grass has had to be re-sodded in several spots, partly from the damage of two music concerts.
A game against Kansas City last month was suspended because of a power failure.
Brewers radio play-by-play announcer Jim Powell was among 19 people who were trapped in a stuck elevator last month.
