(February 14, 2000 Paris)

It had been a little over a year since Pacey and Joey had arrived in Paris. Tomorrow, they would be on a plane flying back to boring, dull, predictable Capeside.

'Well, when we get back, it is definatly not going to be predictable. . .' Joey though. She had changed so much this past year, she still could hardly believe it. She had more than she could ever dream of having. Last year she had agreed to go to Paris, because she wanted to get outof Capeside more than anything. So on February 9, 1999, even though it was the end of the first semester, she got on a plane, and left her old life behind. And arrived to something she would remember forever. The kindest host family, a lavish room to stay in, the best friends anyone could ever ask for, but most of all, she had met a guy who she had fallen so in love with, she coudln't imagine her life without him. Best of all, he felt the same way. It wasn't like those secret loves, the two were 100% in love with eachother and everyone in Paris knew it. The people of Capeside however knew nothing. They didn't know about Joey's radical transformation. She was still obsessed about getting the grades, but now she was enjoying herself. She would where short shorts, skirts, dressed, make-up and had cut her hair short, and kept it that way. She had even become a very popular cheerleader. Yes thats right, Joey Potter became a Cheerleader. Vicki had convinced her to try out with her, and the two were chosen to be the head cheerleaders. Although she had written to Dawson a couple times to let him know she was fine, she had come right out and said she had met someone who she loved more than anyone, she was still nervous about going back. She did not want to go back to Capeside. ***Pacey was thinking about this past year. He left on the 10th of last year, and no one but the Capeside Union High School District even knew where he was. He had decided that he would do well in school, and was even third in his Junior class of over sixty. Art was first, Joey was second, and Vicki fourth. Because of how stressful it was for Joey and Pacey to catch up in the middle of the year, they arranged to take extra classes during the summer, and the rest of the year, and had completed their junior year early. That's how the district learned where he was, but they just simply stamped on the records 'Early Completion of Junior Year' and moved on with their daily work. So technically, the two were now seniors, so when they got back, they would have seven months just to relax. In honor of how well Joey and Pacey had done, their Junior class unanimously voted to move the Junior Prom, from late June, to February 14. The two were loved by everyone, and they wanted to give them a great sendoff. He had called Bessie a few times, and once Dawson had grabbed the phone from him. He asked a few questions about where he was, but Pacey refused to answer by simply saying 'here and there'. When asked about the girl, he had stated that he met a woman who stole his heart from him, just as he had stolen hers. Soon after, he hung up. At first every time Pacey called Bessie, she would ask where he was, but after he obviously avoid the question, she gave up, and would just ask how he was doing. Just for fun, he would ask if Joey had called, and Bessie would start talking about her. Suddenly his thoughts were interupted by Art's voice coming from the speakers surrounding the building. Art had been voted class presideent, and was helping host the prom.

"Now time to announce this years king and queen." a brief pause while he opened the envelope and read the card.

Big surprise here," he said sarcastically. "The couple you have voted to be your king and queen are. . Josephine Potter and Pacey Witter." an applause engulfed the room, as Joey and Pacey steped onto the platform. Joey was given a tiara and roses, and Pacey a crown and sceptor. They were nearly blinded by all the flashes that the camera gave. Everyone knew that their flight left first thing tomorrow, and they wanted as many memories of the two as they could get. After a brief statement of thanks by them, they had their first dance as king and queen. And again, more camera flashes. But this time, neither noticed. They could hardly even feel the floor beneath them. They felt like they were in heaven, which just happened to be the theme of the dance 'Heaven sure terre". At about 11:00, Pacey quietly told Art that he and Joey were going. JOey was saying her last goodbyes to Vicki, and then snuck out the door. She had said her fare wells to Art earlier. They had the numbers of almost everyone, and knew they better quietly, or they would never get out. Besides, Pacey had reservations at 11:45, and really wanted to keep them. So they made their exit just before dinner was about it be served.

Dawson realized that Joey has in fact moved on. He had read, re-read and read her letters again. He had memorized every letter word for word. In them she wrote of someone who she would have never expected to fall for, but that she had in fact fallen in love with him and fallen hard at that. She also said how beautiful Paris was, and that she hoped that he and Jen were fine. Although he found it odd that she never mentioned Pacey, he passed it off figuring that she knew he wasn't home, so why mention him. She had sent him a picture as well. He still couldn't believe how diffrent she looked. She had toned down her dress for the picture, wearing knee length blue dress, but he would just spend hours looking at how short she had cut her hair. He also stared at the pic she had sent him of her in her cheerleader uniform. He still couldn't believe that she had become a cheerleader, head cheerleader at that. One thing that she always omitted from the letter she would send to him, Jen, or Bessie though, was her return address. What had Paris done to his Joey? His thoughts drifted to Pacey. He was, by luck, able to talk to him a few times. Every time he asked if he had met someone, he hinted (very strongly) of falling hard for someone. And that same someone falling for him. Then Pacey would ask if he could ask Bessie a question, after all Dawson got the phone in the first place by grabbing it out of her hands when he heard Pacey's name. Pacey woudl then, just for fun, ask if Joey had called. Even though he already knew the answer.***Jen had alson recieved a few letters but Joey actually called her once. She wanted to apologize for the way she treated her, and wanted to know if they could still be friends when she came back. Jen was more than happy to oblige. She also said that they were already friends, and that she loved the dress that she was wearing in the picture she sent. This just made them both laugh. Jen also told JOey how she had taken up a job at the Ice House, and was actually doing well, but that she also had a brand new respect for the waitresses the world over.

"May I please open my eyes now?!?" Joey requested. "And is it just me, or is the floor moving?"

"No, you may not move," Pacet stated, "And yes, the floor is moving. We are in an elevator. Just keep them closed for a few more minutes." When the elevator stoppped, he gently led her off, and over to a table where he sat her down.

"Ok, you can open them now." he said.

"Well, it's abou. . . "Joey began, but when she opened her eyes, was rendered speechless. "I called in advanced." Pacey smiled, pleased that she remembered what was so special about this spot and time. Joey was taken to the resturaunt at the top of the Eiffle Tower. She remembered that exactly one year today, at this spot, at this hour elevan, they had their first date.

Even though he was supposed to go over to Jen's for dinner, he declined at the last minute. He was still depressed aout the fact that Joey would not talk to him. So he spent the rest of the night starring into her empty eyes from an old picture.**Jen figured long ago that she had lost Dawson She knew that he was waiting for Joey, and as soon as she got back, the two would live happily ever after, leaving her behind. . . her and Pacey. She still had no clue where he was. She had talked to him on Christmas, but that was it. She only hoped that while in Paris, someone else would steel her heart, so she could take back Dawson's. But for now, she figured the best thing she could do, was be his friend.
