I also have a 27 with Centerboard. Had some problem with it my first year. The delrin rod broke at the cable connection and the centerboard dropped down and pulled the delrin rod into the stuffing box ( luckily not all the way out) . Had to replace the delrin rod.
1. Stuffing box not tight enough ( too tight and it will bind on delrin rod) and could put excess strain on cable or delrin rod).
2. Delrin rod worn last few inches making stuffing box loose when board is up and tight when board is down
3. Cable that connects delrin rod to centerboard could be too short (from former replacement) causing delrin rod connection to cable to hit stuffing box when in full up position.
4. Rubber boot for stuffing box could be bad or clamt that connects boot to boat could be loose or not on far enough.
