East of Eden

In East of Eden, James Dean plays Cal Trask. This story is basically about a troubled young boy, Cal, who lives in the shadow of his older brother. Cal desperately tries to win the love if his father but fails again and again. These failures cause Cal to pull a desperate act in hopes of one last attempt for his father's love.

James Dean's acting in this movie was so real that it left audiences awe-struck and wondering if Dean had really been acting on screen. Some just couldn't accept that Dean's portrayal of Cal was acting so many began to believe that Dean transferred his real feelings and stressed relationship with his real father onto the big screen.

In 1954 James Dean is cast to play Cal Trask in East of Eden, based on the book by John Steinbeck
Elia Kazan directs and Jimmy shares the screen with Julie Harris, Dick Davalos, and Raymond Massey.
Before filming begins, Kazan sends Jimmy to meet with John Steinbeck, who quickly agrees that Jimmy is Cal.
Kazan orders Jimmy to spend a few days at the beach and get a tan, also telling Jimmy to gain some weight
