Clean, safe beaches earn 'Blue Wave' honor


Florida touts 9 beaches
on national group's list


WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 1, 2017) --  The Clean Beaches Council released the results of its annual Blue Wave Campaign, listing beaches that it says is certified as clean, healthy and environmentally well managed.

The list includes 9 Florida beaches – down from 43 in 2004. This year, beaches in 20 U.S. states and territories made the list. Florida has the most beaches on the list.

Applicants for certification may include beach municipalities, local authorities, tourism boards, homeowners associations, hotels, resorts, and others representing a beach or destination.

The Blue Wave Campaign is a voluntary program with the number of participating states varying from year to year.
