Note the reduced amount of girder work and tracks of the shuttle station structure in the final years. A 1940 proposal to link the Lenox Ave Subway to the Polo Grounds Shuttle was nixed due to the tunnel clearance problem. The shuttle line still may have survived to the present day if that connection was made.
