A collection of photos of the 9th Ave El and Jerome Ave Connector Line that became known as the Polo Grounds Shuttle.
Anderson / Jerome Ave Station
1949/50 view of the Anderson / Jerome Ave Station. The IRT Composite cars were the standard equipment on the shuttle until this time. The Composite cars were replaced by LoV's about this time also. The third rail shoes of the LoV cars that ran on the shuttle were shaved off to run on the open El third rail because of the tight tunnel clearance.
The tunnel clearance problem only came to light in the last 20 years and was the reason that the shuttle was abandoned.
As a side note, It would have be interesting if the IRT had transferred the remaining gate cars from the Dyre Ave line to run on the Polo Grounds Shuttle.

The Composites were replaced with standard Low-V's sometime after the demolition of the 9th ave structure and yard. The cars in this picture are Low Voltage cars, same as the cars on the Lexington Ave line. This leads me to believe they upgraded the 3rd rail to accommodate the all-steel cars.
