DLEM (Détachement de La Légion Etrangère De Mayotte) - Mayotte - Indian Ocean.
A very small unit stationed at Mayotte, which is a volcanic island within one of the world's largest lagoons in the Comores archipelago, located in the Strait of Mozambique. In 1976 the Comores decided to remain a part of the French Republic. Since then, the Legion has maintained a small detachment upon the island. The detachment's mission is to maintain a French presence in the Indian ocean region.
This small detachement's main duties are in construction, supply and security. It is run and maintained by Les Anciens (Legionnaires with many years service under their belt). It is for those who have done plenty of service and can enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle.
