The dynasty is a dark one indeed. The Scorpion clan were successful in their coup. Akodo Toturi never showed at the battle of Otosan-Uchi and the Lion clan were the first to fall. Hida Kisada embraced Shoju's strength and cunning, which helped in turning the tide of victory for Shoju. The Brotherhood of Shinsei is all but extinct as the monks disappear into mysterious temples and retreats far from the eyes of Shoju. The Crane clan lost many samurai and samurai-ko in the battle, and they have become disfavored in the courts. As Shoju's own politicians have undermined and backstabbed this once righteous clan. The Dragon clan sat on the sidelines of the battle watching as the clans struggled, but did not enter the battle, they remained silent. The Phoenix clan struggle with in-clan confrontations between the elemental masters. The Unicorn clan fearing the worst have closed their lands off from the Empire. What of the ancient Naga? They never awoke in force. Though snake-men have been seen stalking the forests. Quiet whispers spread through the villages, of a mortal claiming to be the son of Osano-Wo. He comes from the islands of Spice and Silk to be a champion for the minor clans and the common man, but does he have his own agenda?
Now, Bayushi Shoju sits upon his newly crafted Obsidian throne, hailing as the land's new Emperor. Akodo Toturi, furious at Shoju for his murderous ways, raises an army of Ronin against the new Emperor to gain vengeance for his clan. Yoritomo, who claims to be the son of Osano-Wo, has made his voice heard. He has his sights set upon the throne, thinking it doesn't deserve to be sat on by a weakling. For him war will get him what he wants...for himself, the minor clans, and the common people. The Dragon Daimyo, Togashi Yokuni, whispers that "the flow of things has gone astray", and other such riddles and nonsense. The court openly dismisses his ramblings, though inside each courtier lies the seed of doubt and fear. Word has come from the broken and fleeing Crab Clan, that they have lost the Kaiu Wall, and the Shadowlands Hordes are advancing on Rokugan...lead by none other than Yogo Junzo, the Scorpion Traitor. Chaos is being held back by a thin thread , and the fate of an empire hangs in the balance. It is a time for action... It is a time...for heroes.
The Obsidian Empire is a storyline based on the Legend of the Five Rings CCG & RPG. It is an alternate storyline created by Dennis Quearry. With major contributions from my other scribes Todd Sowards, Mike Mullins and Ed Tumber. I want to thank them for all their help. The storyline tournaments and events are conducted at Emerald City Comics & Collectables,Inc. in Seminole, FL. We currently have done a Test of the Obsidian Champion, which was won by a Lion Clan player and Matsu Agetoki was named champion.We had a second Test of the Obsidian Champion and a Toturi's Army player won. We have done a Test for Enlightenment, which Phoenix won. We have had two strategic tournaments, the Dragon clan team won the first, and the Shadowlands team won the second.
