Part 2

"This is impossible!" I exclaimed. Jacquie and Sam's parents had graciously agreed to let me make the long distance phone calls from their house. I had just talked to another adoption agency and got nothing.

"Don't give up," replied Sam encouragingly.

"I know but they could have adopted me from anywhere in Kentucky."

"Are you blonde or something?" asked Jacquie rudely "Call your parents and ask them what agency you were adopted from."

"But I said I didn't want there help," I commented.

"Well then either you quit complaining and keep calling the agencies or suck it up and call them."

"OK, well let's try that Heavenly Angels one," I replied picking up the cordless and dialing the number.

"Hello Heavenly Angels Adoption Agency, Martha here, how can I help you?"

"Um hi. My name is Alexandra McBride. I think my parents may have adopted me from your agency. The reason I'm calling is because I wanted to get in touch with my birth family," I said quickly

"OK, sweetie, calm down. All I need is your parents names," she said sweetly in a southern drawl.

"Dale and Kit McBride."

"Ok, hold on," she said as I heard the tapping of a computer keyboard "Here it is, Dale and Kit McBride. Now you're looking for you birth family, right?"

"Yeah," I stated thanking God that this was the agency.

"OK, well I can't give that information out over the phone. I'd need you to come down here to the agency and fill out some forms and then I can give you the address."

"Well, I live in Georgia but I can be there in two or three days."

"That's fine, honey. Let me give you the address and then you can come on down when you're ready. It's 1659 W. Vine Street, suite number 111. And that's in Lexington; It's a pretty big building, you can't miss it."

"Thank you, miss. I appreciate all the help," I said copying down the address she gave me.

"Oh my, I haven't been called Miss in forever. Take it easy, Peach."

"Bye," I replied hanging up the phone.

"Was that it?" asked JQ.

"Yeah, that's the one. I gotta make a reservation for Lexington. You guys coming?"

"I can't," stated Sam "I start my internship at the newspaper on Monday."

"That's OK. The newspaper is more important! Jaqs, you going to come?"

"You bet!"

"OK, I'll make the reservations and we can leave on Monday," I said calling the airport.

"Oh my lord!" I exclaimed looking at the huge building that housed the agency. I turned around and looked at JQ "I can't do this."

"You can't do this???? You flew all the way to Kentucky and you can't go through with it? You're on drugs! No turn around and get into that agency now," she exclaimed. God I didn't know she could be this pushy.

"Yes, Mother," I said walking into the revolving door completely scared as to what would follow.

As I neared the suite I heard operators answering phones in there cute southern drawl. It was a pretty big office and rather busy. Well at least I went through a goo agency. I step to the doors and slowly stepped through. I looked around nervously.

"Can I help you, sweetie?" asked a twenty-something woman behind the front desk.

"Oh well I was looking for my birth parents and the lady I talked to told me that I had to come down here to get the info," I replied slowly.

"Alright, Hun, who did you talk with?" she questioned settling back into her chair.

"Martha, was her name."

"Oh OK, walk down that middle row and she'll be the third cubical on the left."

I thanked the woman and made my way to Martha. She looked sweet, maybe in her late thirties/early forties. She had a pale blue pants suit on and she was a plump pretty lady.

"Hi, Martha. I'm Alexandra, you talked with me on the phone a couple days ago," I said stopping in front of her small desk.

"Oh yes, I remember you. You called me miss, brightened my day to no end," she said in a sugary southern drawl.

"Yep, that's me. I'm here to get the information on my birth parents."

"Alright. Here are the forms. You're over 18, right?" she asked giving me a clipboard.

"Oh yes, I'm actually just turned 19 in February," I said taking the board from her.

"OK, good. Now I'll give you a minute to do that and I get all this computer stuff done," she replied tapping away on her keyboard.

A couple of minutes later, I finished the forms and hand them back to her. My tummy started doing flip flops as I realized that soon I would have the name and address of my "true" mother and father. I had decided that I wouldn't go today to meet them. I'd wait and go around noon or 1 o'clock tomorrow. I figured I might go on overload if I went today.

"OK, everything seems in order. Now all I have is a first name and address as to where your parents live. The good thing is that your mother kept sending them pictures of you and things of the such so we've been able to keep track of your real family that way. That's about it," she said handing over a piece of paper with a name and address written on it.

"Thank you so much, Martha. This really means a lot," I said getting up and shaking her hand.

"No problems, Peach. This is why I do what I do," she smiled as I started walking away. I looked at the paper once again looking at my parents names.

"Jackie and Harold. My real parents are Jackie and Harold," I sighed walking out of the building.

"So how did it go?" asked Jacquie sitting in the lobby of the complex.

"I got it!" I exclaimed holding up the piece of paper. JQ ran up and hugged me and we started doing our happy dance.

"So what are there names? Where do they live?" she asked as we hailed a cab.

"Well they live in Lexington-DUH! Jackie and Harold are there names," I told her slipping into the cab. Jaqs in with a dumbfounded look.

"You're kidding right?" "No, here's the paper. See-Jackie and Harold," I commented showing her the paper. She stared at me with her mouth open and I just looked at her confused.

"That's the name of Brian Littrell's parents. You know Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell," she said calmly. I trusted her since her sister, Sam, was such a Brian freak. But this was too coincidental. My parents adopted me from Lexington, from a couple named Jackie and Harold. Weird!!!!
