He woke up shortly after and tucked her into the covers and headed for the couch.
A.C. woke up around six, and she forgot where she was. She walked right into the kitchen and got herself a drink which woke up Brian, who was asleep (WAS being the operative word here). He got up, and walked over to her to see if she had found the drinking glasses. He scared the hell out of her.
"AAAAGGHHHHHH!" she screamed, dropping her glass on the floor, which of course, shattered. Her scream also woke up AJ and Nick who lived too far away to drive home at whatever time they had gotten back the night before. Nick came running in his sweats and a tank top and AJ came in just his boxers! (Hey, once again, my fantasy. Shut up.)
"What the hell?" AJ yelled. Brian took a look at him in his Mickey Mouse boxers and couldn't help but laugh. They all watched him as he laughed like a lunatic. "Oh boy. He's gone over the edge," AJ stated.
A.C. laughed at AJ's joke and his eyes widened. AJ leapt over the couch and grabbed her shoulders, pretending to drag her away from an invisible gravitational force, all the while screaming at Brian, "No Brian, No!!! You can't take her too! NO!!!!!"
They all cracked up and went back to bed. Except for A.C. She went to the window seat and watched the sun rise over the city. Brian came back, looking for her and saw her sitting there. He leaned against the post in the middle of the room and watched her. Her expressions changed in seconds from pure happiness to utter sadness and back again. He didn't think anything of it.
He whispered, "It's beautiful, isn't it." So quietly, as if not to break the morning's glory, he sat beside her. A.C. wasn't looking at the sunrise anymore. She was starring at her hands and softly crying.
He touched her shoulder and she looked into his eyes.
"Brian," she said, "What do you see when you look at me?"
"Why?" he asked.
"Please, just tell me."
Brian nodded hesitantly. "Well, I see a beautiful 14 year old girl about five feet, with blond hair, and the most beautiful green eyes I've ever seen. A spitfire through and through."
A.C. bit her lip and nodded. "That's what everyone says. I have to leave. I have school. First day, can't be late." She grabbed her things and walked out the door.
Brian felt a little strange with A.C. walking around town in his sweats, but when she stuck her head in the door, he was even more confused.
"I'm not always a spitfire." she added. And slammed the door.
