Part 5

Later that same night

Molly sat in the chair that sat perpendicular to the couch watching Bri and Sam sleep. She wished she was Sam since she had harbored a slight crush on Brian but realized that could never happen. In a way she happy for him. It was what he wanted but before she could finish her thought, she heard a key in the lock and the white front door creak open.

“Shh, Sam is probably sleeping,” stated Lexie quietly walking into the apartment with Joey close behind.

As the duo walked, Lexie could hear Matt Pinfield on the TV talking about some new video effect. When you walked into the apartment, you were automatically in the living room and Lexie was surprised to see that the lamp was still on. Lexie headed to the kitchen but stopped short and Joey ran right into her.

“Lex? What is it?” he asked grabbing her sides to steady himself.

“Um....” started Lexie slightly distracted by how close Joey was to her “On the couch.”

What the two saw was Brian sitting behind Sam. His head drooped forward as he slept. His arms were wrapped protectively around Samantha. Lexie’s down comforter was also wrapped around the pair. Sam’s head was also down but had settled to the side-right next to Brian’s.

“Should we wake them?” questioned Joey still holding onto Lexie.

“No, I A) don’t want to embarrass them and B) they fell asleep, obviously they are tired. We’ll just leave them be,” replied Lexie walking into the kitchen and flipping on a light next to the sink. The room was bathed in a pale orangy glow almost like candle light.

“Are you thirsty? You want something to drink?” she asked slightly nervous.

“Yeah, that sounds great,” he said.

“I really had a great time tonight,” said Lexie getting a pitcher of juice out of the fridge.

“Me too,” said Joey examining the counter.

“Here you go,” stated Lexie handing him a glass. As he took it from her their hands touched sending a shiver through both their bodies.

Molly chose that moment to walk in. Her jaw dropped open and a confused look washed over her cherubic face.

“Hey Molly, how are ya?” asked Austin, Lexie’s guardian angel.

“Yeah, Mol, long time no see,” said Sara, Joey’s angel.

“I’m good what are you doing here?” Molly questioned back.

“Same as you, watching our handy work,” replied Sara.

“Oh by the way, James is looking for you. He says it’s urgent,” added Austin.

“Man, I was supposed to meet him and report about Brian! He’s going to kill me,” she exclaimed disappearing.

“Beginners,” commented Austin.

“We’re we ever like that?” asked Sara.

“I don’t know but look,” both angels smiled and high fived each other as they watched Lexie and Joey share a very passionate loving kiss.

Half hour later

“How could you be so irresponsible? You know the rules! You never, ever show yourself, let alone explain what you’re going to do! What in the world were you thinking?” yelled Lance.

Molly had found him sitting on a bench in the large spacious park. He had just got back from a meeting with the big guy.

“Lance, let me explain,” pleaded Molly.

“You’ve got five minutes.”

“OK, well he really needed some reassurance. He was doubting the power of his prayers and was starting to lose faith. That’s way I showed myself. I admit I wasn’t thinking and I didn’t realize what I was doing. It was a mistake but he needed me,” she stated softly. Lance sighed heavily understanding Molly’s plight.

“Molly, I like you. You’re a good person and you are amazingly compassionate but you gotta understand that my hands are tied. You’ve been relieved from active duty until further notice. I’m sorry,” he explained quietly almost so Molly didn’t hear.

“I’ve been relieved? Lance, no! Brian needs me, he needs my help,” pleaded Molly once again.

“Sara has been assigned until a permanent replacement can be found,” said Lance sadly.

Molly’s hands flew to her ears and she clamped her eyes shut. She shook her head back and forth not wanting to hear or face the truth. Lance carefully placed a hand on her shoulder that was quickly shrugged off. Her eyes were welled with tears and spilled over down her apple-like cheeks.

“Mol,” he whispered but instead of answering she ran off deeper into the park.
